Scale models---$20.00 now?!!!!!!!!
Man, when did they become so expensive? These were plain old Monogram models.
I wasn't looking to buy but I couldn't believe the price. They used to be under $10.00. This was at a KMart, BTW. |
I thought $1.00 was a lot when I was looking at them.

I remember buying my first model. It was Don Prudomes Snake funny car back in the early 70's. I think it was under $4.00 at Woolworths
Model prices are out of control these days. Try buying a resin car kit. Or any military model. your head will spin at the prices. |
Its nothing to spend 50 bucks on a good kit but then again, they are NOTHING like they used to be. I did this one last year.

AMT, MPC and Johans used to be $2.00 when I was building them and gas was about $1.00/gal. I'm gettin' old.
|
Super, I think 50 is a pretty good deal for that... of course, your paint 'makes' it.
Tiger? I don't know much about tanks, but I know it's not a Ferdinand (Elephant). |
That Gun is steel on that Tiger 1 in the second pic? What scale is that and is it Tamya? I am looking for an old Tamya tank (I like Tiger 1) to build with my kid in a few years. They made a 12 or 10 scale radio control model way back, I think? I used to fuss with Tamya's 35 scale Nazi stuff a lot 35 years ago when I was little. Any info on where I can get something like that?

Either way, NICE WORK! |
If anyone is interested, i have a large collection of new un built, in the box 1/24 that i accumulated from the 70's thru the 90's.
Porsche , Ferrari, Ford racing is the general theme, but there are others (MBZ, Mini, Honda, etc) I don't have a listing of all the various ones, but shoot me an e mail in what you are interested. Most of them $10 each. The high tech build versions (some photo etched metal parts) $20 each White metal: Also a very rare Western Models 1/24 250 GTO for $200 and a SMT 1/24 427 cobra for $200 thanks dave tremotorsports@gmail.com |
I am very interested in the Porsche ones! Send me a PM and let me know what you have. Thanks.
|
I haven't bought a model in decades. I do have this one lying upstairs, though. No idea what scale it is- I believe it's a Pocher Testarossa. I put the CD in there for scale reference.

Paint - Burnt Umber acrylic (old rust) Wash - black oil point Wash - umber oil paint Dry Brush - Orange acrlyic (tank tracks would rust overnight) Finsh - Dry brush - Silver enamel Crazy I know |
The part I struggle with is paying $35 for a good kit plus about $20 for paint and at least 40 hours labor I might as well buy a die-cast from AutoART that looks better and is more durable anyway. I liked them when I was a kid because they were more detailed and realistic than most of the stupid toys available. He-man and cartoonish fantasy crap. I still get the bug every once in a while but I'd rather throw all the money and labor at my real car.
The hobby store in my town has been transitioning to the Gamer/Figurine market for the last ten years. Lame. |
Holy Moses. I just saw the same Pocher model I posted selling on ebay for $400-700. Granted, no bids on the $700. But $400!! For a model! It's just been keeping my Porsche posters flat for over five years now.
Crazy. |
And then you accidently glued the doors shut. May as well fill it full of firecrackers now...

Wayne, I stopped in a hobby shop last week and saw what you're talking about... basic, run-of-the-mill 1/25th car kits going for 22 bucks.
I didn't see any I wanted... plus, I have 10 or so unbuilt. :) |

Hi Guys
I am moving the kits over to my shop, stacking them on a shelf there so I can better see what i have available. Bear with me, as we have several projects due in a week. so I don't always respond to your e mails as fast as i would like. Good thing that I developed more stamina against keeping them :) Seeing the box art on some tugs at the collector/hoard strings :D ....... yeah, i did keep a FEW at home , but 98% have to go! thanks dave |

Anyone interested in a 1/8th gas powered GT1? I built it, started it up, and shut it down. It was never put on the ground!
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1271975792.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1271975846.jpg The other one is a 1/10th scale 993 GT2 with electric motor. Same thing, never ran on the ground. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1271976058.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1271976108.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1271976150.jpg |
Do you build 'em to sell on ebay, or did you intend to run them but decide not to compete in local races because you were concerned about the carnage?

I never ran the GT1 because I realized that it was a very limited production kit from Tamiya. I blew up models as a kid only to see some of the mint condition ones worth BIG bucks now. Didn't think about stuff like that as a kid....but now I do! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1272039334.jpg |
Very cool, Rob. Do you have a website?
|
Very cool pics, Rob!
I only have one R/C car left, a Tamiya 959. I think my son is ready to get into R/C but I'll get him something more disposable. Haven't built any static models in years (except for a bit of 1/35 Tamiya military). Have a few sitting unbuilt. If I got back into static models, it would be to convert 1/24 cars into slot cars. But first need a track and space for it. Oh, I'm also getting interested in eventually building a scale R/C heli - but just dipping my toe into that hobby for now - free time is in short supply . . . |
Thanks John.
We are working on setting up a site so we can sell the 1000 models that are in our collection. My wife took pics of each model and I documented the scale, manufacturer and estimated value of each one. I've been collecting and building Porsche models for 50 years and it's time for them to go to a new home. I would love to see the collection go to one person (like Jerry) but will break it up if the time comes. |
just picked up 3 plastic models at a yard sale for $1. 2 camaro's (69) and what turned out to be a Canepa big rig. started one of the camaros yesterday with my son. painted the body primer green and going to do no chrome. for $1 (or rather $0.33) it's fun. for $24 i'll go to ebay and buy a minichamps (yeah, i know + a few bucks).
those of you who have Michael's (craft store) nearby should note that they put out a 40% off coupon pretty regularly and that makes the models/paint much more reasonable. |
My wife found this model a couple of years ago at a garage sale. Paid 25 cents for it.

Rob,
In addition to all those models, do you have all of the cars below now or is this in the past? Really hoping its now and am dreaming of a garage large enough to hold all of these! Joe A |
When I was a child I used to build Model airplanes...then I grew up and started to collect Spoons...
You find a nice complete Model in the box from yesteryear, you build it and you lose the value.. |

OK, now that I enjoyed typing that......I'll be honest. Those are the Porsches I've owned since 1967. But only one right now. I had 3 at one time though, a couple different times. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1273534166.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1273534230.jpg |
this thread kinda gets me misty eyed about building models in my youth. ah, the smell of model glue in the morning. and evening. and at bedtime.
