The commuter bike gets a new drivetrain!
New chainrings, cassette, chain and cables. Now it shifts like it has an electric motor.
I rode to work a lot this winter, probably an average of three days out of 5, and the rainy streets of Portland really did a number on the greasy bits. Summer commutes will be way, way better. ![]() (I'm also thinking it might not be a bad idea to stock up on another couple of setups, don't know how much longer the good 7 speed cassettes will be available easily.) ![]()

Do you do your own bike work, or what shop do you use?

I do my own. I have a stand and tools, so it makes it easy and kind of fun.

7-speed will always be around. But it will more than likely not be new. Bike Forum has a vintage site that sells vintage parts. You should check there. Good job commuting by bike. I wish I could do that.
