Neutron Sciences Division - Spallation Neutron Source. Just your everyday liquid mercury target that gets pounded with a 1 MW pulsed proton beam to produce neutrons for materials research.

Yes and no. The tax on coal burning will be stupidly high in a few years basically rendering the coal not cost effective any more. The burning of gas is much cleaner and very abundant in North America. The new technologies are making the switch to gas a much more viable option. Here in Canada there are many plans to switch.
Our main power generating company Enmax just bought gas assets and have started working on the switch.
