Looks like a Ford Explorer Sport Trac to me. I don't understand the utility of a pickup truck with a 4 foot bed.

The Ford:

I've seen pictures of the Amorak before, I think it's pretty cool.

I've known people it was PERFECT for. For instance, there is one person here who's a condo dweller who likes to play with cars, doesn't need a 6'er since he doesn't haul drywall, or much of anything back from Lowes, BUT needs a place to put grimy transmissions, engines and other car parts, and needs 5K in towing to haul cars. Ohh and he needs 4 doors to haul around the family, but parking space is VERY limited. The difference between 6' and 4' means another car in the driveway. Different strokes for different folks.

Me, I want that VW. 5K in towing, 300ft-lbs of torque and over 25MPG? Sounds like I can get rid of my beater CRX and the my guzzler of an F150, for one of those. On the flip side I REALLY want a oil burning Hilux or F150.

Me too Tim...

Us in fact - we have a double cab ute with a removeable canopy as the runaround for work. Still seats 5 people and gives us somewhere to dump the dirty stuff in the back.

Would seriously consider the new VW as a replacement to the current workhorse.

Is it a VW original or a rebadged Ford or something?

Tim's example is a good one. I would love a fuel efficient truck that seats 5 people and has atleast a 6' bed. The new Ford deisels or not that efficient, nor anything else that has the utility.

A much as I want a new truck for everyday use I can't get over the fuel mileage thing. I'll keep my fuel efficient daily driver and keep the beater F150 for when I need to haul stuff.

I already have a VW double cab truck. I like the new one, though. Whenever I ask my father the VW dealer why they don't sell certain cool models in the US, he just rolls his eyes in frustration and says they don't understand the US market.

Mine seats 5 people, has a 6-foot bed, and gets about 20 mpg.

I have a 2007 Sport Trac that I use as a daily driver and tow vehicle for my track days.

The 4 foot bed works well for me - just enough room for all my track tools, spares...etc. But it isn't sooo big that I have trouble parking it at work! The IRS of the Sport Trac gives it a very compliant ride all around, as well.

I have hauled various larger items with it - sure a bigger bed will always have more space, but it isn't necesarily better.

I wonder if that VW would ever come with their now defunct V10 Turbo diesel?!? That would be sweet!

Yep, but will it pull 5K lbs @65mph through west virginia? That's one of the biggest reasons I have a truck, to pull the porsche, miata, or crx to whatever event I'm going to. I've had a car go south of my at an event, I got lucky someone was going through my town and had a street legal car towed there. I don't want to repeat that.

My next truck might be a 2011 ecoboost F150. 23-24mpg on the highway unloaded + plenty of towing capacity. Not quite a diesel, but close.

Towing and hauling is a requirement like, Tim posted. I want to be able to pull an enclosed trailer when I get one. Even now the 5000lbs limit on my Cherokee is borderline for hauling my aluminum trailer with a 911 on it. I have to load a lot into the Jeep to make it heavier than the tow rig.

I've been eye shopping for a used F250 supercab (don't want a 4 dr truck) with a full size bed. I have the parking space at home and won't need to drive it where parking is limited.

They start at $30K, loaded almost $50K, converting foreign prices to USD

I went on the Ford website and built me a 2011 F250 just the way I want it. I ended up being $37K. I'd rather buy that than a Ford witha VW badge for $50K

Ridgelines have a problem with broken windshields (body flex most likely) and they won't admit it, dealers have been told how to weasel out of it.

Not putting miles on your car is like not having sex with your girlfriend, so she'll be more desirable to her next boyfriend.
