CCW Class
Yes, I know I'm taking a CCW class in a state that does not permit CCW...
Some observations: -The class has 11 instructors for 20 students. I believe they are all volunteer. -One instructor is retired FBI and a retired lawyer. He handles mostly the legal aspects. -One instructor is a Cook County Sheriff's Deputy. He says that he teaches the class to maintain his faith in people. -On instructor is a smokin' hot late 20 / early 30 something female. I suspect she might be related to one of the other instructors. I always seem to end up with her as my instructor. -Many of the class members are from Chicago-area police departments. More than one has expressed the idea that safety instruction at their PD is lacking. -I apparently shoot with a Weaver stance. I'm told this is unusual and rarely taught anymore. |
I thought Illinois allowed concealed carry but not open?
edit: ah. security, PIs and special circumstances. Looks like Illinois is one of those states that has previous knowledge of when crimes are going to be committed . . . |
Illinois allows no form of carry whatsoever.
|
I'm gonna keep my mouth shut so this thread stays in OT.
|
So I imagine there is little or no gun violence in IL?

I prefer weaver stance myself, for many reasons. I'm not a big isosceles guy.

The list of reasons, when shooting for defensive purposes, could be quite long. |
Agreed.
For one thing i like the idea of my arm and my thigh providing natural armor for my chest and my nuts. In isosceles your ding dong is swinging directly in the line of fire, completely unprotected. F all that. Weaver is also more stable (especially if you rest your inner bicep on your chest), and allows for isometric pressure to be applied to steady the spoon. Isosceles does not. The only advantage i see to isosceles is that it allows a turret action, which could be handy vs multiple short range targets. In all other ways i prefer Weaver. |
I would think Weaver presents a smaller target. Of course, in Snipes case, the target with Isosceles is minuscule. Such is the exception to the rule (winking smiley face thing goes here).
|
Weaver does provide the smaller (and more "armored") target as well.
Wink wink right back at you Bob. ;) |
I'm looking at taking the class here with my room mate when he gets back from the sandbox.... I hear in OK you can take it up to 2yrs before you turn 21..... I need to check into that more tho.... I'll take it with my dads browning challenger most likely....
|
Still don't get the CCW crap, must be a Yank thing, IMO if you live where you have to feel safe by CCW then its time to move

Oh, but wait...it's illegal to carry a concealed weapon on a military base. Nevermind. And of course, violent crime NEVER happens in the wealthy/nice parts of town. Never! |

yea so yer able to conceal carry in indiana and wisc...once u cross the border heeh.
i was told by rangemaster at willow slough in indiana that, as a IL resident, the possession of a pistol in indiana was not totally legal. however if i were to get a CCW, then it would be ok. so what are u gonna do with yer CCW permit other than show off the piece of paper? :P |

Vancouver crowned break-in capital of North America Last Updated: Friday, December 14, 2007 | 11:49 AM PT CBC News A new report has given Vancouver a dubious honour: the highest break-in rate of all major Canadian and American cities, nearly four times that of New York City. Last year, Vancouver recorded more than 1,100 break-ins per 100,000 residents while New York City had just over 300. ODDJOB
Those legs washing up are just gang related criminals, so really no big deal, so how many people have you shot so far, ever miss and hit somebody else, you ever evan pull your gun? Do you CCW cause your nuts are tiny and your afraid all the time, ie: chicken *****? Of course there is crime everywhere, even in the rich areas, I don't live there but we have 2 BFS (big Fing Shepards) and the wife has a black belt, plus we are surrounded by stay at home neighbours, the home front is safe and we don't go anywhere where there is a chance of trouble, if it happens then some body gets an a$$ kicking, I've lived on my street for 25 years and there has only been one B&E The Vancouver area is large but the city of Vancouver is small and it contains China town , the lower East side and Skid row so that stat really doesn't reflect the whole pic and if you read the story we have few violent crimes cause no one CCW, its the BC Bud that brings the crime and talk of decriminalizing is just talk but if it were to happen than I'm sure there would be a drop in the stat that reflects organized crime |

Sidney there is no point explaining this to him. He was not looking to be convinced, he was merely casting aspersions.
He is no more likely to change his mind about guns than you are to change your mind about Toyota. ;) Here is my CCW "classroom:" http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...24662790_o.jpg Been taking the class for over 10 years. If you include my PI and subpoena work, it's been more like 15. http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...obEnhanced.jpg Me on the job some years back. Sorry if i look a little pudgy....my class IIIA body armor doesn't really help my figure in pictures... |

Shot gun is kinda tough to conceal, even a Defender is kinda big , got nothing against guns, have a few myself, just don't agree with CCW
|
If you had a .45 ACP pistol loaded with snake shot on you those HIGHLY VENOMOUS Bushmasters would be a lot less dangerous to deal with.
So you have direct personal experience that shows you first hand how effective a firearm is when kept on your person....but you're not a believer in it? Just makes no sense at all to me whatsoever. |

There is no-place in the world that is totally safe, even Vancouver. If you are trusting your lives to the police (or RCMP up there) please remember "when seconds count, the police are minutes away!" Its your and your family's lives. Either take care of them or wait for the police. Thank God I live in Arizona! |

i cant freaking believe you wrote the above statement. lets see here: number of people i have shot: 0 number of people i have pulled my weapon on: (1) documented with county sheriff. MORON started shooting at campground full of people. did not shoot because i didnt have a clear shot(trees). how many people have i accidently shot? (0) are my nuts tiny? funny you should ask that. are you like a "TESTICULAR" expert? thats a pretty BALLSY STATEMENT! LOL! am i scared all the time? well yes quite frankly, since i figured out from comic books THAT GETTING DEAD JUST AINT COOL, see i live in a bubble, or call it a force field, if you may. its IMPERVIOUS TO MORONS because I AM AFEARED OF MORONS! and people are NO DAMN GOOD! so your sitting in your lazy boy chair eating the orange food groups, a few ding dongs, yer fave beverage, watching 3's COMPANY and you feel safe protected by (2) bad ass shepherds and a wife with a black belt(classic- my kung fu is stronger than your kung fu) and you feel safe................WOW! thats a security system that just cant be beat. you probably wear HAI KARATE aftershave also. so let me vizualize this.................bad guys come in your house, shoot your (2) dogs, and the next thing you do being the finely tuned trained canuck killer is yell -" STOP MY WIFEY HAS A BLACK BELT!" and the bad guys look at each other in HYSTERICS and fall down convulsing in laughter and have heart attacks from laughing so hard. and then yer the hero and get a full years supply of HAI KARATE aftershave cuz yer such a "KILL-A"! LMFAO! no wonder we have a border with canada. no wonder so many canadian women dee vorce their hubbys and come down here for the winter. nanny nanny boo boo. you cant have firearms in canada. hahahahaha next time someone breaks in my house...........i'm gonna yell " MY WIFE HAS A BLACK BELT AND MY SHEPHERDS ARE BAD ASS!" LMFAO! |

ODDJOB
Thats funny, no I'm none of the above but the it in the center of the pic looks like IT is packing a CW , and the other IT thats CCW looks to be carring a smaller weapon I had mentioned taking a Defender to work for bears, short barreled shot gun with a pistol grip, is that its real name? We tried to get permission for hand guns but the rules made it impossible. you had to stop at every cop shop and your way to work and show permits and chunk, direct A to B route that had to be mapped out, if caught off route that would be huge trouble, a 300 mile trip could take a couple of days easy so it was a no go, and I'd sooner have something with a bit of stopping power when it comes to a mad bear, black or grizz. There really isn't any crime in my area, I'm talking just my area, cop shop about 3 blocks away and 2 blocks the other way is where they gas the cars, they are up and down my street multiple times a day There is crime and morons everywhere and if one did break into my house home invasion style and shoot my dogs a few things would be known he has a gun its loaded saftey is off he is willing to use it this is big time trouble I don't think any one would be fast enough to drop the bon bon's and Pull a CW from a reclined position, a black belt would also be worth less, she hasn't practised for a decade and taking a BB to a gun fight only works in Hollywood. My only thought on the divorced women - isn't that a good thing? They are spending money, we do encourage Gay Quebec'er to move to Florida though. Criminals killing criminals is a good thing as long as an innocent does not get hurt, have no sympathy for them. Back on topic, CCW will never happen here, personally I would sooner see open carry as opposed to CW. ODDJOB I'm sorry if I insulted you about the tiny nuts thing. Not an expert and don't really care what size they are, please do not post a pic. Opinions are like A$$ holes, every one has one, If I had a vote, and I don't, I would oppose CCW |
