Almost had a Barn Find...
Well, sort of...
The house two over has been empty, in forclosure and for sale for over a year. I noticed the back of a red car in the garage every once in awhile when somebody was looking at it, but never paid close attention. Anyway, I see a lady over there today moving some stuff in the garage. A few minutes later a rollback backs up to the garage and I see him load an 88-91 RX7 convertible with BBS wheels on it. Not a great car, but maybe it could be had for dirt cheap? I walk over and ask her about it and she said she was having it hauled off. It had been sitting in the garage for over a year and "it had one of those Wankel engines". ![]() Having never owned one, maybe it's for the best.... |

I had an 88 convertible, which was thrashed when I got it. In beautiful, restored condition they go for $10K. They are fun to drive, fun to work on, and easy to fix, but not worth the money to restore. WAY too many things that were only put in the couple thousand convertibles total that were made.

Get a 944 instead. Better performance and it's the original (well, actually the 924 is, but who wants one of those?) The 924, 944 or RX7 all have beautiful, timeless lines and can all be had for relatively cheap.
Of course as a 944 owner I'm biased a little too. They really are astonishingly good cars, especially considering they were built in the 1980s, designed (largely) in the 1970s and were intended to be "mid-range" sports cars, not high-end or supercars.

BBS Wheels were standard ONLY on the convertible models...not even the Turbo got the BBS wheels.
The FC3S as these RX7s are called are amazing cars.

It isn't to keep. I thought maybe I found a car I could clean up and re-sell for quick buck.
My 930 turbo is my keeper... |

![]() They are cars to drive, not cars to work on. Maybe in another 20 years.
