F-ducts banned in 2011!
On safety grounds. Witness Alonso removing his hand from the steering wheel to plug the hole.
Personally, I am glad, it's a clever idea, but it makes an already unattractive F1 car even more so.

Well, the smart teams figured out how to do it without moving their hands.

Great. Earlier I learned that OTC medication is no longer going to be included in flex spending in '11 and now THIS . . .
I'll bet McLaren's upset.

Safety my arse!
Just to think there was a time when drivers actually removed their hand from the steering wheel to change gear! I see covering a hole in the cockpit no different that twisting and turning all the knobs on the steering wheel or when they used to pull brake balance levers. All I see a great engineering idea being banned because the other teams didn't think off it. But like the teams say, if everyone uses it next year, then the advantage is gone anyway, so sure why bother having it, if it just ups the build and design cost, but please enough of this safety nonsense, do the teams really the fans are that stupid. I'm all for getting rid of the sharkfin though, because it's just so damn ugly

Matt,
Personally I wish that they would go back to having to manually shift. This fully automatic crap takes a lot of the skill out of things. Joe A

How did they ever manage to steer too? and feather the throttle on corners. I have to say I really miss the racing I grew up on. I still love F1 though, and I want to see amazing engineering solutions, but I would rather have more driver interaction with the car.

Automatic, launch control, movable wings, variable air ducts. You are right.

Yes but this fully automatic crap has made it into everyday cars. It still takes an enormous amount of skill to drive these cars. Heading through a corner at 150mph whilst pulling 5g+ is pretty freakin awsome. I think they should bring back turbo's and active suspension. They are supposed be the pinnacle of automotive technology, so make them so.

The nanny computers make them faster though. That's what F1 is about. Technology. Those same computers make them safer for the drivers to.

The problem is that more and more we are seeing the dual of the two computer systems, and NOT the drivers.
The less automated systems IMHO, the better. I could care less if its on our cars on the streets or not.

Agree 100%.
F1 should be about INNOVATION. To spur innovation, you need to decrease the size of the rule book, not increase it. Establish only general parameters regarding required safety equipment, car size, etc. and say "the race starts Saturday at noon - first guy to the checkered flag wins". Then you'll see some real innovation. The nonsense these days with every aspect of the car's design being regulated is silly. NASCAR is a joke for exactly this reason - the cars are identical right down to the restrictor plates, except for different sponsor logos slapped on them. While one can argue that this might make it a battle of driving skill, this is also not the spirit of F1. F1 is supposed to be a battle of driving AND constructor skill - in other words, innovation. The argument for this is that allowing too much innovation is unfair to the lower-budget teams. But my counter point is that in F1, is there really any such thing as a lower budget team?!?! Let 'em build what they can and spend what they want. You'll get innovation that way.

But blown rear wings are okay, right?
