Bored so I'm playing with my woodie?

Don't know why but the other week I woke up with nothing to do so I went out and started taking the finish off the woodie. Got the drivers side done, and the rear quarter on the passenger side, now the passenger door has to be done. Gad zucks zina, why did I start this. Drove it to Rancho Cordova on Saturday in this shape for a shoebox ford 49 - 53 show and got an award. Funny how a project aways starts out as, oh yeah, piece of cake, gonna have it done it a week, NOT!

should have gone surfing!!

That would have kept you out of trouble. Naw, that is coming along great, and you are all most thru with the hard part. Just wait till you start applying the finnish, it's going to be so rewarding!!!
Really nice looking car!! Is the running gear stock??

Hello Richard, Yes I'm still running the 100 HP flathead 8BA, with the 3 speed OD, but I've changed the rear end and gears, now it's a Ford 8 inch with 380's, so I can now cruise around 70 to 75. I've also added a Street Rod Engineering mustang front clip. I grew up in san francisco and attended lincoln high school in the sunset and learned to surf at Kelly's Cove, under the cliff house. In fact I still have my old O'neils 9'8' board number 421 which my brother purchase at O'neil surf and dive shop off of sloat blvd. next to the sf zoo.
Problem with the finish, I don't know anything about wood, so I'm getting lots of help for when doing the spar varnish coat.
Aloha, Robert

Hi Charlie, my daughters and I are always cruzin the coast. Usually we are having breakfast at Catch JoAnns, having coffee on main street or over at half moon bay brewery where one of my daughter's boyfriend works. If you happen to see the car, please look me up and say hello.

That thing is sweet. I'm the king of underestimating the scope of a project.

I like the lighter tone of the wood w/o finish. Goes very well with the red. You might try a light bleach before the new finish. I've done a lot of wood refinishing, but if you have good advisers, I'd go with what they say.

BTW, I just refinished a front door with spar varnish. Great material if you can find it in CA. However, it dries really slow, so keep your workplace clean and don't let the breeze kick up any trash. I added Japan dryer from the art supply, but it didn't move the process along as well as I remember.
