Went to the circus today. I've never been to one.

Our local shriners held a small circus today so we took the kids. I had a really good time, mostly from watching my kids enjoy themselves. They had the motorbike riders in a cage that were awesome!! I've never seen this live. how they don;t crash was beyond me. For the finale, they had 5 riders in the cage.Incredible!! The prices were high but it's for a good cause so I cut loose with a little cash for treats and a couple of souvenirs. I think I saw a Porsche emblem on the ponies though as it was $8.00 for a 5 minute ride in a circle.

Cool! Haven't seen a circus since I was a kid. Good of you to take yours. The memory will last.

Good initiative. Done that plenty. The clowns make me feel uneasy.

i'm cool with them at circus(s). (what is plural for circus anyways?) them running outside the big top format, creeps me out. are there still big circus events? with animals and stuff? i thought PETA put a squeezing on them?

I didn't see any PETA people at this one. The dancing elephants looked pretty happy to me, though. The trapeze chicks were hot, btw. in a carny kind of way.

Just went to a circus three weeks ago. I think it was a circus benefiting the Shriners too. I would rather write a $50 check directly to the Shriners instead. It was horrible. From the sheister PA announcers try to get kids to buy programs so they can win a $3 prize to the lame animal acts. Having seen lions and elephants in the wild, I don't think locking them up all day for a ten minute performance is all that humane. I would rather see them in the zoo where they don't have to face trainers whipping them if they don't perform. The non-animal tricks were cool, but I think we went to third rate show. Kids enjoyed it though, which I guess is what counts.

PARF clowns aside, what is it with clowns? I never minded them, but some folks do. Know why? Is it like a bad dream live? | ||

Illinois State University has the Gamma Phi Circus one weekend a year. No animals, and it's completely student-run. The primary focus is on acrobatics, juggling, and other physical stunts. Tickets are something like $15 for a 2-hour show. I don't believe any of the performers are paid and the ticket prices simply reflect what it costs them to put on the show in the absence of labor costs. I've never been, but I know of lots of families that go every year.

Cirque du Soleil is awesome - any of them. Well worth seeing if you get the chance.
