The World is being taken over by morons

Took over as President of the HOA last Fall. I was it before, but after a few years I could see the guy I took over from was lazy and a moron. He hired someone to fix our decorative waterfall at the entrance to the HOA. The moron who fixed the waterfall eliminated the priming valve for the pump and glued everything together, even the threaded PVC fittings. Left no room for anything to be cut and replaced. Now a fitting is leaking and we have to do hundreds of $ of PVC replacement. Effing moron.

I contend that the takeover is no longer occurring, but is complete.

The lowest common denominator has been pandered to for so long that the rest of us are now in the minority.

The morons in the HOA below us found a 15' easement and decided to landscape. That lasted until I pointed out that the 15' easement was for 1/2 of the road to their houses....................

I just watched the movie "Idiocracy" last weekend and wondered how true some of the content was going to be in the future.

My HOA hires moron, local PD flunkies as 'Security'. The best part is, they're all 'deputized' so they write residents tickets for speeding at anything more than 4mph over. I had to ******* go to court because someone I pay the salary of wrote me a citation for going 34 ******* miles per hour.

When I bought my current 3 acres......I made sure there was no HOA involved..........Only six of us here with between 3 and 5 acres......Don't need some neighbor sticking his nose in my affairs...........

I just hope the morons can wrest power away from the idiots -- or least form a coalition with the imbeciles.

I guess we're lucky. The drama we've had is more centered around the management company. A hit and run driver ran over the big stone column the gate controls are in. While someone who pulled in behind her was watching and taking pictures, the driver tried using the buttons from the now severed control box to get the gate to open. After it wouldn't work (broken wires don't make it wireless!) she freaked out and drove off. Police came, did a report, got pics of the driver, her car, plates, ... and management company pays a lawyer to write a letter to her address so we can file with her insurance. Aaaaand we wait. And wait for two months before management company tries to get us to file with our own insurance, expenses of course come out of resident's pockets.

It took the president just a day to get SAPD back on the case since they had everything right before them to go pay the lady a visit and her insurance company called up and took care of their hit and run driver. People are bothered by the management company because we paid them to send the letter off which was ignored by driver, and basically do nothing. And now charge $25 for a homeowner the "Application to redo something major with the house" form.

Being on the board has been worth it. There was an empty spot, and what better way to make sure that somebody with absolutely nothing else to do but cause problems for people got on than to step up?

Why people continue to live in areas under jurisdictions of HOAs is totally beyond me.

I'd never consider it - not for a rental property, not for a residence, not for anything I'd ever own. I don't care how good a deal it was - too much B.S., red tape and potential problems.

To those who would say, "but they help keep the property values up by preventing my neighbors from doing stupid things" I'd say buy a place with more land (more separation from neighbors) as a buffer.

I guess I don't understand why it would cost hundreds of dollars to replace a leaking PVC fitting. Can't you just cut the pipe upstream and downstream of the fitting, glue in some couplings, and replace the leaking fitting? While you're at it, glue in some unions as well where you need to get access to pumps and valves.

The HOA I have now is pretty good. They maintain a nice neighborhood pool, and generally leave people alone otherwise.
