How to safely remove the rings from an Audi decklid?
The rings on the decklid of my Audi have become quite pitted and in fact bubbly. I'd like to remove them, any tricks for doing this?
I also would like to know why they used such cheap plastic for these 'chromed parts', same for the front grill.

Its just double sided sticky tape----careful use of a heat gun should do it.----depending on the colour, there may be unfaded markout on the paint.
Quality of the item is known as 'planned obsolescence'-----you are supposed to buy a later model car! |

Little bit of warmth and fishing line.
Googone to get the residue.

Heat gun could be a bit difficult to keep from putting too much heat in play. Try it with a blow dryer first... with an attachment that pinches down the air flow to a smaller stream if possible.
Don't know if the rings were plastic, but last week on Ultimate Factories, they did an hour on the Audi R8... and showed the same doublesided sticky attachment method.

I don't know, but you'll need a ring compressor to reinstall them.

Given that it's an Audi:
1) Obtain Bentley manual 2) Disconnect negative battery cable 3) Spend 45 minutes figuring out how to unsnap the front bumper 4) Remove 19 unnecessary plastic clips from some wiring harness 5) Surf the stupid AudiWorld forum 6) Print off technical posting on how to remove the emblem
