The 'bird is the word. Here's a bunch of early ones. I know these are almost all Firebirds, but there is an early custom color T-bird in there. Photo is from Brian Fischer's collection (Ear Craft Music in NH).

more 'birds....
None of these are mine, they are all from a friends collection. The red and the blue one are reissues, everything else is pre '65. Very cool guitars. There really is nothing that sounds like a Firebird. ![]() ![]() FB I ![]() FB V ![]() FB III ![]() Custom Shop reissues FBIs: ![]() ![]() Last edited by Shuie; 05-16-2010 at 05:02 AM.. |

I think if I had the T's in the 1st pic, I'd sure as Hell find a better car to be the backdrop for the pic.

Now, if those guitars were posed in front of a '55 or '57 Chebby, that pic would be incredibly awesome.
Somehow, a Subaru just kinda kills the effect... ![]()

I wonder what happened to my 3 PU T-Bird. I sold it in Orlando and it just disappeared off the face of the earth. I would think with something that rare, somebody would be braggin' bout it.

Dumb Aussie question
![]() How do these compare to Fender guitars? These are beautiful but down here a Fender seems to be the guitars to have.

I don't put Fenders down, I just prefer the dark sound that the Gibsons make. I have really never played a show that later somebody, mostly sound engineers, didn't make a comment on the sound of that beast. It's hard to put a leash on it. |

John Entwhistle had many Thunderbirds that he glued Fender necks on. T-Birds have very thin and fragile necks especially at the nut. Most have been broken. John broke one of his once and had a Fender neck put on his. The "Fenderbird" was born. John also used a PJ PU in the tail position on some of his. When we talked once he made that recommendation to me also. The last bird on the right in the first pic is a fenderbird, left handed reversed neck even.

That's interesting about the "Fenderbird". Thanks for sharing!
I've never heard a Thunderbird live, but I have heard them recorded. Very unique and powerful sound.

I was wondering when the true miscreant would show up
![]() I need to try and play an original one. My guess is that the reissues aren't quite the same. Oddly enough I sold my Sadowsky as I'm not really a Fender guy either. Picked up another Zon that is a midrange surgical knife... |
