The Recipe For Staying Rich
You can make a lot of money, but if U don't hang on to it U ain't never gona be rich. So ya can't go around leavin $100 tips and expect to be rich at the end of the day. If ya have ever noticed the really wealthy people are penny pinchin frugal SOB's who are aware of every buck they spend. That is why when I hit the Grocery Store I head right to the Dented Can and Reduced Meat price bins..My best score ever was buyin 8 bottles of Far Niente Chardonnay for $4.00 a bottle, as you wine conosewers know a bottle of Far Niente cost more that $40.00 a bottle. Those 8 bottles cost less than one bottle at full price which left me enough money to go and buy some gourmet liver flavored dog food...my guests at my dinner party went wild with me pouring the wine like water and handin out the pate like it was...btw when I set my table for a dinner party there is enough of stuff on the table to buy a late model Porsche...Waterford, Alan Adler, Ansley China, Georgian Silver...etc
So to bring it up to date the other day I hit the Dented Can Bin and found a couple cans of Diced Tomatoes and a can of Red Kidney Beans and a can of Black Beans...all at half price...I headed over to the reduced meats and found a package of Beef Stew meat which was 50 cents a pound less than Burger... So I decided to make Dented Can Chili The Recipe: 2 16 oz cans of Tomatoes 1 16 oz can of Red Kidney Beans 1 16 oz can of Black Beans 3 Cloves of Garlic 2 lbs of Beef stew meat coarsely ground in my Food Processor(very lean meat) 2 Tablespoons Veggie oil.. 2 heaping Tablespoons New Mexico Chili powder 1 Tablespoon Oregano 1 Tablespoon Cilantro 1 Teaspoon Cayenne 1 Tablespoon Red Chili Flakes 1 teaspoon Cumin 1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon 1 Tablespoon Corn Flour. Put oil in pan with Garlic and Meat and brown, put in rest of stuff and let simmer for awhile...a simple recipe for stayin rich... It turned out Dam skippy...

Tabs,
Totally agree. An old friend of mine started Far Niente and its very good "swill" as he used to say. I hit the 99c store myself and find lots of good stuff there, then waste the rest of my money on hookers and blow (actually cars, motorcycles and airplanes!) like the rest of you guys do. Joe

After one has reached a certain level of comfort and security, obsession with nickles and dimes is extremely unhealthy.
You are describing people who know the price of everything and the value of nothing. My father is not wealthy, but he's secure. I've seen him give $100 bills to hitchhiking families. He's not wealthy, but he's rich in ways that can't be measured by an accountant. Wealthy cheap people annoy the crap out of me. Search for bargains if that makes you happy, but when the affluent tip lightly it's offensive.

I learned a lot from him. I am very generous, I travel, I enjoy my wife and daughter, I don't drive a POS, yet I have never made a car payment.
I'm 52 and believe I have maybe, 20 good years left barring tragedy or illness, life is too short.

I have lost far too many friends in the last 3-5 years. Am five years older than you are and it does not get any easier.

Greg,
I grew up with Gil Nickel along with his brother John. My Father worked for his Father back in Oklahoma and we became friends. Gil give me my first ride on a BMW motorcycle and started a life long addiction. Nick Nickel, their Father, had a Jaguar E-Type and got my Father addicted to Jags, and my first ride in an E-type was with Nick, and it was well over 150 mph on the OK roads. I dated for a while John's daughter Debbie, so we were all pretty close. We lost touch when I moved overseas. Returned in the 1990's and ended up sitting next to his son on a American flight to SFO. We exchanged info and two weeks later my work called me to "come get this damm package out of our office." Seems that Gil had sent me a case of "our local swill" as he called it. Was really sorry to hear that he passed a few years ago. Joe A
