A fast Indy 500 this year?
INDIANAPOLIS – Alex Tagliani has taken the early lead in the chase for the Indianapolis 500 pole.
The Canadian used an early run to top 226.2 mph on all four laps to finish with an average speed of 226.392. The closest contender to Tagliani is defending Indy winner Helio Castroneves. The Brazilian had a four-lap average of 226.388. Former Indy winner Dario Franchitti was third at 226.156. Qualifying will continue until 4 p.m. The nine fastest cars will then return to the track for a 90-minute "shootout" to claim the pole. Two drivers, Mario Moraes and Tony Kanaan, crashed during qualifying but did not appear to be seriously hurt. Danica Patrick was 18th on the grid after getting through the qualifying line.

Rules at lower levels of racing are fine, but the professionals should be reaching the speed of sound by now. Especially in open wheeled cars. Those cars have no real application in life. We benefit from minute amounts of technology, but that's about it. Put some fenders on it, trade some paint, wad things up similarly to what is seen on each and every highway, everyday.
It's just a bunch of big go carts, which can be ok to watch, and I thank you for not providing a spoiler (unlike F1 where qualifying determines finishing order).

Watching the same car with different paint jobs drive around the track by themselves is pretty boring.

No one seems to realize that each and every driver must go flat out for four laps. The ultimate speed is determined by the engineer and his set up. He says you're good and you go. NO questions. It's his word against the wall. Or a top spot. Anyone that can't see this should leave the room and go play fvking golf. |

Castroneves on Pole with a 227.5
He looks good for another win if he can stay out of trouble and have a bit of luck. Penske again looking good, Ganassi off Penske pace by close to a full second!

I thought spec car racing was supposed to even the field and everyone would have a chance to win?
Penske kicks butt again.

Indy quailifing is boring? Betcha bubble day puts you to sleep. must be pretty exciting to be you. Ever watched NASCAR qualifing, that is same car different paint job, Nascar is like flushing the toilet and throwing in a couple of packs of M&M's, last one down wins. Milt said it perfect, get your clubs out if you really want some action, if thats too much for ya then try Darts or Bowling |

yesterday was a great day at the track!
i still prefer the days of the forced induction cars....(and their speeds) BUT....... ....but when you're there, your ears hurt from the noise, the smell of ethanol is sweet, and the speed is blindingly fast. it's still a blast to watch!

LOL did anyone else hear the excuse vagina complaining in an interview?
Worst car she's ever had, couldn't get it to do anything, it wouldn't even go straight, it wasn't her fault she qualified 23rd, basically came out and said she was gonna do terrible and it was gonna be everyone else's fault except hers. She has about as much grasp of the team concept as hambone. How does she still have a ride? |

Remember her a year or 2 ago at Indy, she was on the radio, "I'm too slow I'm too damed slow" Maybe tell us something we don't know. Only woman to win a major motor race, well all the fast people ran outta gas, lots of guys have won this way too but it isn't thier only win. DP should be in Hollywood where making a spectical of your self is expected.

Best bump day ever. Now the race might well be a bore fest, but so far so good.
I think the regulars from Penske and Gannasi will dominate. I just wish the TV coverage would focus a bit more on the likes of dark horses like Junquera. If all goes well in his pits, he will be there. I can think of 3-4 other that could do well against the dyNASTYS. All 4 women will be a non factor. Sorry ladies, it's just a prediction. Surprise me. |

It was nice to see Sarah Fisher get in the show.
And DP? She has the class to match her talent.

Two feel-good moments:
1) TK finally getting enough of a car to get in the show. 2) Milka Duno NOT qualifying. Its a bummer when she is two laps down after 15-20 laps of a race and then screws up the front runners. I would have liked to have seen the "Thrill from West Hill" make it into the show. He screwed up.
