help with check engine codes

First I have been on all the mbz forums and those guys dont have a clue. My daily driver is a 98 mercedes c43, the cel was on with codes 170 and 173. I replaced the maf and now it misses at 3k and above and engine code 170 173 and now 110, you guys have any ideas. I may have to break out the p-car for a daily driver and really dont wanna, Thanks, Kevin

Get the AutoEnginuity software and cable package and it will be a life saver. I have had it for over 3 years now and it is used mainly on the F350 Dually but I have also used it on the Mini and the wife's Caddy. No more guessing and cheaper than the dealer for an older daily driver car.

I don't know squat about Benzes, but if it didn't miss prior to changing out the maf and now it does, first thing I would check for would be a vacuum leak. Might have missed a hose when you replaced the maf.

A lot of the after market MAF sensors that we purchase for just about any car are bad. Those 100 codes are likely multiple fuel trim and multiple cylinder misfires. Unless it's an actual BOSCH MAF you're playing with a moving target.

I believe that those first two codes are indeed maf related codes. If you have already replaced the maf, I would be looking for any air leaks in the air intake tract. Any unmetered air leak that is downstream of the maf sensor, will cause running problems, and will also set maf codes. Good luck

Also , look carfefully at the crankcase ventilation hoses, I think these are tied into the air intake pipe as well.

Take a look at my reply on benzworld. Most of us mercedes guys do have a clue.

I think code 110 (P0110) is the air intake temp sensor. I would look for something loose... ?

Here's a list of trouble codes: OBD 2 Fault Codes Reference Guide

I would try to clean the MAF first, cant hurt.

Are the codes the same for all OBD II cars?

What I came up with matches the others posted:

P0110 IAT Circuit Malfunction
P0170 Fuel Trim Malfunction (Bank 1)
P0173 Fuel Trim Malfunction (Bank 2)

No hoses on my R&R of the MAF on a W163.

And BTW - you can get a Bosch for low $$ at Germanstarparts.com

The dreaded CEL - it just showed up on our newest truck at work - less than 150 miles.

My thoughts exactly. On my Mercedes I could hear the intake manifold sucking air in....
