Eh. The whole conference thing has evolved from making sure schools had other schools to play (100 years ago), to making sure the athletic powerhouses stay athletic powerhouses and the other schools stay shut out.
College athletes haven't been student athletes in my lifetime. They are simply draft showcases as some athletes only stay in college for a year.

Funny how just a few years ago USC was finishing above those "other" teams in the BCS standings. There was that one year when texas finished first all the best the pitiful old USC team could do was finish second in the nation, oh the shame. BTW Boise state has already been whipping up on California teams like fresno state, harding jr. high school, jefferson elementary, etc. Seriously, I'm a Boise st. fan and I follow them fairly closely. There's a wide reciever on that team that could be 1st team all-american and go first round into the pros if he were 6'4". He's listed as 6'3" but that's a bit of a "stretch" (get it?). Unless he's grown recently he's prolly under 6'2". He definately has the talent tho. His name is Austin Pettis and I've been watching him play almost every game since he was a sophomore in high school at Orange Lutheran. |

As an A&M grad it wouldn't exactly bother me if we ended up in the SEC. Especially because I'm trying to move to South Carolina and it'd be great to be able to pick up a few games on TV.

REGGIE BUSH is the one that got the school in trouble for allegedly asking for and recieving gifts that were inviolation of the NCAA policy. THAT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH CARROLL OR RECRUITING. USC has 17 national championships in football. That's more than Texas and LSU combined. Here's a few of their complishments in this decade: Quote:
Then you can have tutors and professors at a certain florida college saying that their football players could not read at a second grade level and the school administers covered it up, but USC gets hammered because of one person who would be probably be in prison if it weren't for the NFL. Over-heard in a remedial english class at LSU: Teacher: "Class, today we are going to learn about punctuation. Can anyone tell me what comes at the end of the sentence?" LSU football player raises his hand and the teacher calls on him, "what comes after the sentence? That would be the appeal!" Last edited by sammyg2; 06-10-2010 at 12:26 PM.. |

Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's always Bush's fault.

Well, I guess the Carroll years now got USC exactly ZERO BCS National Championships.
Maybe they'll send in Sniper to repossess the glass football. ![]() And, do you see what it says on the trophy? THE NATIONAL CHAMPION. There's only 1 per year, sorry. In 2003 it was LSU. In 2004 it is now going to be Oklahoma. USC has cheated in recruiting extensively in the past decade, total lack of institutional control, with agents running amok at the place and in their locker rooms, envelopes with $1000 handed out, etc. Do you think players like OJ Mayo went to USC because of their great BB program? LOL. They do it for the "benefits," funneled to them by agents, etc. with USC turning a blind eye. I'm surprised that such a "law and order" "do the right thing" guy like you would support such a sleazy program. |

"In July 2007, ESPN.com named USC its #1 team of the decade for the period between 1996 and 2006, primarily citing the Trojans' renaissance and dominance under Carroll."
Maybe ESPN.com will also strip that. I can't see how anyone can say a college football team was the "#1 team of the decade" when they won ZERO BSC National Championships in that decade. That's a joke. At least now it is clear why Carroll fled L.A. He was smart to do it. |

The investigation involved 2 players specifically (Bush and OJ Mayo), AND the university in general. The NCAA imposed the sanctions because of what they found with those 2 players specifically, but also because of their express finding of "lack of institutional control" and "lack of commitment to compliance with the rules" by usc. They also found "serious failures of the university" and that usc is a "repeat violator." (Yes, those are quotes directly out of the NCAA's ruling). To try to blame this all on "one POS gheto thug" is a joke. Face it, they've run a dirty program for years. Tim Floyd knew it, that's why he resigned the head BB coaching position in disgrace. Carroll knew it, that's why he fled town. Thankfully, they've now been busted, and some measure of justice done. Last edited by McLovin; 06-10-2010 at 01:50 PM.. |
