Yup... I co-own a homebuilding company and several development companies. Can't imagine being employed by anyone else (besides our customers!), but the downside is that the hours are sometimes endless.

ebradway 12-19-2001 07:24 PM

I'm unemployed... Life sucks... The car is listed in the classifieds...

andyu911 12-19-2001 07:29 PM

Self-employed architect here with two partners in the office. Agree with MikeB, there's no normal hours for self-employed folks.
But, it's my career and love every moment of it.

self-employed here, too... i'm in the music industry and am basically an independent contractor most of the time, as well as the head of my own label.

cary 12-19-2001 07:51 PM

Yep, self employed. I stack cans and sweep floors. And occasionally squeeze the Charmin.

Long hours. Still fun. Only have to answer to the customer and the banker. LOL.

Legally not self-employed (in the IRS sense), but I am the president & co-owner of a small family-owned business (software company), which is pretty darn close for all practical purposes. We live and die by cash flow, but it is overall a rewarding occupation and the flexibility is wonderful. There are no "outsiders" in top mgmt or on the Board telling us what to do; on the other hand, there's no outside money either.

As I think Mel Brooks said, "it's good to be the king". Usually.

I'm self-employed, and, really, it's the only way to go!

I can get up when I want, drop everything, jump in the 911 and go to the gym at 3PM, if I want, then come back and work until midnight -- if I have to.

It can be lonely, and sometimes you need nerves of steel, but the pros easily outnumber the cons.

So, what is it that I do? In 1999 I co-founded a film and new media production company with my brother.

Self Unemployed

I'm self unemployed at the moment. That's the problem with being the boss. I guess I'm gonna have to threaten to fire myself if I don't get off the Pelican BBS and get back to work.

I'm going to be unemployed too. It will probably take months to find another job  Guess I just have to hold back with the "porschespending" until things get going again. :(

You've got a great idea:)

I know all to well. I have three machines and as soon as they come off lease I am going to check other manufacturers. I found they only work well if you make sure the renters limit the size of the cups they are using. Cut's down on amount dispensed too quickly.

Self employed too. If you are in the market for a digital video camera come check out my site. I can use the hits to attract some advertisers and maybe I can keep working from home. But I get to write off a trip to the CES show in Vegas in January. CES (Consumer Electronics Show) = High Tech Heaven for a Digital Junky like me. :)

I'm, also one of those who has never had a "job". Fortunately, business is pretty good. I own a ticket agency in Pasadena. We, coinsidently, have a National Championship game here in a few weeks. Unfortunatly, work for the "man". But the man is a major stock brokerage firm, so........
Plenty of time to watch the "small" board.

P.S. - 17 years in the biz - open for new ideas.
