Jack Roush injured in plane crash
![]() MILWAUKEE (AP) NASCAR team owner Jack Roush was in serious but stable condition after walking away from a plane crash in Wisconsin on Tuesday night. ''There are injuries. Possible surgery,'' Roush Fenway Racing president Geoff Smith said in a text message to The Associated Press. ''But he walked out of the plane.'' Smith confirmed that the plane belonged to Roush, and he was flying it. Smith said Roush's injuries include facial lacerations. Witnesses said the plane began to roll during its approach, causing the nose to hit the ground, according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette website. The plane then spun 180 degrees and the tail broke, the newspaper also reported. Roush, an aviation buff, was attending the Experimental Aircraft Association's annual AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wis., this week. Well doing it at Oshkosh, there will be plenty of witnesses. This should be interesting.

Its not been a good year this time around at Oshkosh. Lots of rain means that airplanes are parked everywhere but not where they should be, away from the runway.
This one will be an interesting investigation...

A little bit of blood there... Any landing you walk away from is a good landing??
Time for Jack to hang up the pilot's hat..???

This could very well be incorrect but doesn't look like the landing gear is down.

Gear does not appear to be down from any of the additional pics either.
Wonder if they were doing a low pass and got too slow? AOA in pic #12 does not look good and appears to be in a stall condition. "It was Jack Roush's Premier. I saw most of it until it disappeared behind some planes. He appeared to be at high alpha, way behind the power curve, and then went into what appeared to be a 45-60 degree bank. Wing hit first, jet spun around 180 degrees or so, and the rear section of the fuselage broke off. No fire. I watched the pilot walk out (very bloody) and heard that the sole passenger was ok."

I am glad no one was killed, and only one was hurt. That could have ended very badly.
One day I aspire to own an airplane with my initials as the "N" number.

These events always seem to give the convention and the pilots a black eye. As pilots, we are human and sometimes make mistakes. Fortunately, most of our mistakes are minor and do not lead to damage, injury, or death. Unfortunately, on very rare occaisions they do.
I was there yesterday afternoon and not far from the accident, but did not witness. First story I heard was a biz jet went off the end of the runway, injuries unknown. Later I was called and told that it was indeed JR's aircraft and it was really bad - death and trauma to pilot and passengers. That ALWAYS leaves a pit in my stomach even though I know it happens at the convention some years. I was very relieved to hear that he was "OK" and walked away. After looking at how high he was off the ground, it seems to be nothing short of divine intervention that he did not become a smoking hole. Joe, the initial story is that he was making a close in short approach, decided to go around, too high AOA, and stalled. I do not have a jet type rating, but if I were to hazard a guess he found that he misjudged the approach (high and hot), decided to go around and did not reconfigure the aircraft for the go around. Nose high trim and high power leads to high alpha, no? Oh and BTW, despite the wet grounds, no aircraft to my knowledge (and eye) was parked any closer to an active runway that in normal dry years.
