I don't know a single person who is blaming the cop.

GH85Carrera 06-17-2010 12:59 PM

Only Sniper!

McLovin 06-17-2010 01:02 PM

My kids sometimes like to play a game called Opposite Day.

For sniper, it's not a game, but a way of life!

speeder 06-17-2010 02:37 PM

Sniper, like the broken clock that's right twice a day, had one thing right. After reviewing the tape again, that has to be the world's weakest cop. He cannot get one of the other girl's arms twisted behind her back, no matter how much time he is given. Up against the patrol car, etc., he just cannot do it. It's an average-sized teenaged girl, she's a little wound-up I'll admit.

He's weaker than a new-born kitten.

alf 06-17-2010 02:55 PM

The kids were in the wrong for fighting with the cop. The cop either showed great restraint or his kung fu was weak.

Not blaming. Just calling him a wuss.

He's got to be thinking today that fate was kind to him.

Don't point things at cops while they are doing their job.

Speedy:)

Raises an intersting hypothetical though. What would have happened if:

A bystander was (legally or illegally) carrying a gun.

The situation with the girl escalated to the point here the PO drew and aimed his weapon.

The bystander, believing there was an imminent threat to the girls life -which might reasonably be argued, given the video of the encounter and the number of witnesses- shot and killed the PO?

What would have happened!?!?! You're kidding...right?

So, a police officer, on the job, trying to get control of a situation draws his weapon...and Cletus Q. Public thinks the girls life in in danger and shoots the PO? Cletus, my friend, is farked.

Yeah, just a girl ...

Trust me, not the first scrap for those girls. ...I went to HS right there. Violence was regular. Shootings, stabbings, Molotov-cocktails. . . And plenty of those girls fighting, with every dirty trick in the book.

Note those guys, in the background of the vid, just standing there. . .watching the show. Not like Stu thinks, were they are thinking about stepping in to help those girls out. ...More like [thought-bubble] "that girl is gunna rip that cops nuts off.... lucky cop's got short hair, else she'd have a handful 'bout now... [/thought-bubble]

Watch this video around 1:30 to 1:32. Look in the black mans right hand on the left of the video. That is not a cell phone.

Another thought about jaywalking. The driver who mows down the jaywalker, most of the times in an unavoidable fashion (sorry officer, even my porsha doeasn't stop in 3 feet) is in for a world of trouble.
I firmly believe that jaywalkers should be handed a strong message, and maybe they'll lose, what, 2 minutes a day instead of getting dead or crippled and ruining someone else's life.

I ususally clutch in and stab the throttle. Walkers flee like lemmings...

its not a gun either, local news did a frame by frame they think its a plastic bag.

flatbutt 06-18-2010 07:32 AM

thats a pistol. plastic bag my arse. you can see the barrel as it comes in front of his leg.

Zeke 06-18-2010 07:43 AM

I did a frame by frame and I say it's a tough call. He's holding something and holding it like one would hold a gun. As I said, the officer was extremely vulnerable many times throughout the ordeal. I don't think his training was in any way adequate.

URY914 06-18-2010 07:51 AM

I would have liked to have seen what happens to the ***** in the pink top that he hit. The recording stops too soon.

island911 06-18-2010 07:52 AM

naw (no gun)... the crowd dynamic would have changed rapidly if he was hold a gun in his hand. (his left hand, at that)

would you be standing near a young kid with a gun in that scenario? I would get the hell OUT!

Cops here are walking a tightrope. If they over-step in the slightest, whiney critics will dump all over them. (the latest training -- PC tight-rope)

I mean, if the cop would have swept her legs, had her face meat the asphalt, you likely would have been shrieking "just a girl! . . .why did he have to be so heavy handed? So mean? boohoohoo hoo. . .racist cop."

I think you're looking at the wrong person. It's the older guy with the hat, and it sure looks like a gun in his right hand. He keeps it close to his leg, and most everyone's focus is on the cop/girl.

I thought I saw her being led away from the fracas by someone who obviously has some smarts.

I don't think we are too off point here. I'm not necessarily suggesting that the cop needed to be more violent. I said here before somewhere that he needed to work more swiftly and not engage in a prolonged girl arm and slap fest.

The gentler he could have been in making quick work of his decision to detain the offender would have been a result of better training and more experience.

I'll employ your adage that my opinion is worth .02.
