The SR-71 had 2 ramjets...

Ramjets? Are you talking about a "pulse jet"? Those don't have a throttle control. This jet, and most like it, are turbines...

For some higher end models, go to bvmjets.com...

They have a single turbine ready to fly for about $20,000...

The low end stuff, which is what I can afford, is about $5000....

Exotic118 06-17-2010 12:12 PM

That's insane!!!

TRE Cup 06-17-2010 01:14 PM

Every year they have a jet meet at woodley park here in the van nuys area. Some of the detail lengths these guys go to is unreal.
I blew it by not bringing my camera this year
F 100 super sabre with afterburner, all the right rivets, markings, "aluminum skin"- my mouth just hung open till a fly flew in ;)

A10 gun ship with rotating cannon, pilot

F-16's were all over the place with varying degrees of detail.
Super impressive turn out- i won't forget my camera next year !

BlueSkyJaunte 06-17-2010 01:40 PM

Actually the engines in the REAL SR-71 were hybrid turbine/ramjet engines. The starter "motor" was a pair of Buick Nailheads hooked up in tandem and mounted on a cart.

Here's the website for that event:

Next LA Jets - May, 22 & 23 2010

There is an event the weekend of July 23rd.

I used to get pretty nervous flying around my $100 four star 40 size r/c airplane, I can't imagine putting that thing in the air. You auger that thing in and you are out a ton of cash...

That is wickedly cool - I wonder how long that took to build.

Looks like he has been working on that project for about 8 years.
13 feet long, 7 foot wingspan, 45 pounds. Estimated top speed of 170 mph.

Wow.

Embraer said "that SR-71 only had one engine, located right in the middle"... he was referring to the R/C version.

With a name like that, I sincerely doubt it. ;) :P

That is a cool model and I applaud the guy's dedication and skills, but I got real bored after watching it fly in a circle for the twentieth time, doesn't seem all that fun.

sammyg2 06-18-2010 07:26 AM

How bout this one, a reeeeely big RC B-29? Over 18 foot wingspan and almost 500 pounds.

sammyg2 06-18-2010 07:31 AM

ROFLMAO here's a really big B-52. I'd love to be able to circle a few "mosques" with it and watch the terrorists freak out:

This is pretty cool, an F-16 fighter. Great sound, pretty good stunt flying. Like being at an airshow

There's some money fo sure - paying for your passion. I guess all it takes is money and the balls to spend it.

I love watching those things but I can't ever see owning one.
