Wow, that's really cool. To me it seemed to take of really quickly using very little runway. It must have some beefy engines.

Honestly, I think I'd get board with that after a while.

Yeah, but I gotta imagine flying it is just the gravy.

Very cool. Has to be super hard to fly, as it is fast, dark and has a shape that does not communicate attitude very well at distance. Obviously, an accomplished pilot.

I think I'd get bored with it too. I'm more into big, detailed model train layouts .

That is wickedly cool - I wonder how long that took to build.

I built and flew R/C a lot as a kid, just when the ducted fans were becoming popular (the engine tech is way beyond that now). The low wing-load slow planes are more fun, IMHO.

The fans and jets go too far too fast... 10 seconds of flight in any direction and you're losing your view/perspective, so it's: zooooooooom, turn, zooooooooom, turn, zooooooom, turn. It gets boring to watch. But they're definitely cool machines.

The local R/C club's field is right next to the driving range I frequent, so there's a lot of high-dollar toys in the air on Thursday evenings... including some very fast-moving machines.

The guy needs to install afterburners (and a video camera in the nose, so he can fly it by pilot's p/o/v and extend his range a bit).

Actually, more in the neghborhood of $50,000...

The turbines are $5000 or so a piece (needs 2), the frame is custom made, etc. A smaller prebuilt turbine jet is about $5000-$15,000, depending on type. I put one together, but never had a chance to finish. Realistically, I am somewhat apprehensive to fly it...

Its a $5000 risk every time you go up...

Some folks buy porsches...some buy turbines....

except i believe that SR-71 only had one engine, located right in the middle. i think the "engines" on that were fake.

it's only the shell, no engines or electronics, but i also don't think it's quite the same scale, maybe 8' nose to tail

My father used to auger in 1/4, 30%, and 40% scale models fairly regularly (mostly Extras, Sukhois, and the like). I remember having to dig out a Sachs-Dolmar out of the ground. Was buried up to the firewall. I finally asked him WTF he thought he was doing with my inheritance.

Now he just buys Buick Nailheads. (insert facepalm smiley here)
