Qualifying is balls out...they are hustling those tanks around Infineon as I type. Pretty friggin' impressive.

That's o.k. Once the real race is on they'll have multiple crashes and someone will win under caution. Yawn.

Actually, with the way they've changed the rules, they won't finish under caution. If there's a late caution, they just send out the pace car to stop the racecars on the track, clean up the mess, and then go racing again for the last couple laps.

That's one of the problems with NASCAR, IMO. The racers and teams are as competitive as anywhere else in professional motorsports. But the organization is a bit WWFish, with their fabricated close finishes (i.e. mystery "debris" caution with <10 laps to go to bunch up the field).

Yeah...I'd rather see an F1 finish with one car out front by 30 seconds, 4 on the lead lap and 11 still running at the end out of 18 starters:D

At least that's real racing, where the cream rises to the top and others actually get left behind because they're not good/fast enough.

Of course, Bernie and Co. still manage to make a mockery of racing, too, when they pull shenanigans like regularly deciding upon penalties for racing incidents AFTER a race has been run.

Ahhh, "of course" the NASCAR guys aren't as good as the ALMS racers, right?

Wwong...anybody in the ALMS series would jump to Nascar in a heartbeat...if they were good enough.

I like ALL forms of motor racing, but I gotta agree. F1 has to be the most boring race to watch. Hour and a half of "follow the leader".

I guessing you did not watch the GP of Canada last week did you?

Too bad I missed it. Infineon is one of the most exciting races in the series, IMO. I once saw a couple newer stock cars hustle around Willow Springs Raceway. They're much faster in person on a road course than it seems on television.

I wish NASCAR had more road races. :(

The drivers, crew and cars definitely have the skills.

Paul, as always...stirring the pot.:rolleyes: Being good enough isn't enough if there aren't slots available to step into. You are right in at least one respect though, they'd jump in in a heartbeat - for the money. There's huge money in NASCAR.

The racers in each series tend to be specialists in their own type of racing. Yes, there is some crossover, but for the most part, those that dabble in other series for a few races here and there don't do so well, with a few exceptions.

Sports cars look good at Sears Point.

Prototypes look surreal at Sears Point.

Stock cars look like they have chassis made of butter use Nerf balls for springs: they lean and flex visibly. They oversteer and snap right to understeer, or vice-versa. AND they run an easier configuration for the track (which is why I have trouble figuring out where they are when I watch on TV).

That's not to say I don't enjoy watching the oval boys hack through some real racing. It's also fun to watch Tony Tewart and JP cut through the oval boys like they're standing still.

I usually attend this race every year. I am bowing out this year for several reasons. Its always a serious "hike" from where you park to where you watch. (not that I have a problem with that) After the race, its a serious hike "back" to your car. (see above) Then you have to sit in MAJOR traffic to get back home again. ( I have a big problem with that) I find the Infinion race is better watched on live TV. The people watching there is worth the price of admission though. If you're into that. If you want to drink beer...bring LOTS of money! The prices are ridiculous! Other then that, its just fine.

I go to the races in Richmond, VA. I have been to both IRL and NASCAR races. You know what? Same people there. :)

I saw a guy at the Dover race that was so dirty, I think he was replacing the transmission on his motor home right before the race. Like in the parking lot. People watching is a hoot.
