Probably my favorite airplane of all time. Before I die I'll fly one.

I remember seeing one of the engines at the Tillamook Air Museum (Oregon) which had been used for testing after the war. Apparently they boosted it to something like 140 psi of boost (!) There was a hole BLASTED right through the side of the case where one of the pistons punched through it. The crazy part was I guess they'd apparently done this successfully many times - apparently the guy just got the mixture wrong that day or something. But DAMN!

140PSI?! That's a lot of boost. My ambitions are a little smaller. Before I die I just want to fly a Piper PA-18 Super Cub.

An Allison (sp?) on start up is a little like a funny car on start up. There really is no recording that will do it justice. You really need to be there to fully appreciate it.
