69 bucks for a hot dog!

Only in America!

Manhattan Eatery's $69 Hot Dog Is World's Most Expensive
Updated: Sunday, 25 Jul 2010, 12:35 PM CDT
Published : Sunday, 25 Jul 2010, 12:35 PM CDT

(NewsCore) - A Manhattan eatery's $69 wiener was declared the world's most expensive hot dog, the New York Daily News reported Saturday.

Restaurant Serendipity 3, which also holds the record for the world's most expensive ice-cream sundae ($1,000) and the largest hot chocolate (four gallons, 15 liters), set its latest record Friday -- National Hot Dog Day.

Trudy Tant, 49, of South Carolina helped cement the record, forking out $69 for the foot-long designer dog.

Guinness World Records official Kimberly Patrick declared the record after watching Tant pay for the frankfurter, which came slathered in truffle oil, truffle butter, duck foie gras, Dijon mustard, Vidalia onions and ketchup on a salted pretzel bed.

"It was great. Great flavor," Tant said, who was approached to be part of the record attempt after wandering past the restaurant Friday.

There was a nice restaurant here that had a $50 Peanut Butter & Jelly & Banana sandwich. In the 80's.

Mainly because that's what Elvis had when he at there years before.

They did sell moderatelly well.

Restaurant is gone now. Owner retired and tore it down.

I guess the meat came from organic poodles, raised sustainably by indigenous poodle farmers

I'm across the river right now thinking about dinner. If I head into the city, this is where I'm going....to shoot photos...I'll eat elsewhere.

I saw a show on the food channel that featured a $1000 pizza. I think it was in NY/Manhattan.

Hmm, I don't know about that. THat's sort of like saying "you don't have sex with brunettes." Hot dogs are great with miracle whip, katsup, mustard, pickles and american cheese. They are also great with cheese and chili, sauerkraut and gourmet mustard, etc... There are lots of great ways to have a hot dog.

I'd rather get a Sabrett's hot dog with the works from a street vendor and pocket the extra $65.

Just had a hot dog and hot link for b-fast. Katsup on both.

Idiots who have too much money will always blow it on funny things. A $69 hot dog is one of them.

I got the impression that the guy was given the money as a set up, or he was willing to pay to be in the record book. Either way, I have a 944 in my driveway available for $17k if he is interested. Hehe

THIS is a fricken HotDog.

Anything else is a poor inbred wanna be imitation. Ketchup on a HotDog? In Chicago there are plenty of places that will literaly throw you out the door if you're caught doing this.

o Snappy, natural-casing, all-beef wiener, from Vienna Beef, Red Hot Chicago or a few others, steamed or boiled
o Steamed, high-gluten, poppyseed bun, such as S. Rosen's Mary Ann
o Yellow mustard
o Neon-green sweet pickle relish
o Chopped raw white onion
o Dill-pickle spears
o Fresh, ripe tomato slices or wedges+
o Whole, pickled sport peppers
o Dash of celery salt
o Absolutely no ketchup

+1 A good kosher dog needs nothing except an appetite (and maybe a hint of mustard).
The trick is to never look inside the cart when the vendor pulls out the dog (or soft pretzel). The old joke goes:
How can you tell when its springtime in NYC? The hot dog vendors change the water.
