It's hard to judge true distance from his vantage but I would think we were about 1/8 to 1/4 mile away and both in the view of the gun at the same time.

There are lots of ways to fight tickets. Look online, there are a lot of resources.
I am not an attorney and this isn't legal advice. Weird that I feel I need to say that. First, ask for as many continuances as you can. Drag it out. Second, in some jurisdictions, you can have the case moved to the county seat. This makes it a pain for the cop to get there some times. In California (and maybe Wi.) the judge can not also be a prosecutor. Therefore, he can't judge and represent the state. Ask for a prosecutor. Ask to see the certification of the cop to use the timing equipment and the most recent relevant calibration of the equipment. At any point during this process, when the state can't produce, ask the ticket to be dismissed. If you still are stuck then take pictures that show where he was, and where you were pulled over. See if you can show that there is no way you could be traveling at 83 mph, have him time you and stop where you did. Be sure to tell the story leaving out your speed and tell the judge what the cop did when you told him he was wrong. Good luck.

I had the same thing happen years ago. I was being passed by a semi when we both went thru radar, he was in the passing lane I was in the right lane. I got pulled over, when i mentioned that the truck was going faster and a much larger target for the radar unit the trooper got really pissed. I had a hearing but the Magistrate pretty much ignored me and I was found guilty.
Good luck. Bernie |

Well our traffic court here is a big joke!
I visited court the prior week just to see it and man was that Judge tough. He was throwing out deals the "DA" had made and giving the max on 98% of cases. On my court date I signed up to talk to the DA as soon as I walked in. Turns out he's too busy to hear the pleas so they get college interns to do his job. They give the kids a list of what they can offer you and that's it. No discussion, No listening to the facts or looking at possible evidence; basically it's take the deal or go to trial. I gave in and took the deal ($50 off and 2 less points). The hanging Judge was presiding, the cop was present and his report was so vague I couldn't argue against it. Traffic Court - Guilty until proven Guilty (or until bullied into a confession).
