BOHICA - 50 BMG upper - Anyone own or handled one?

The price is "right" for the upper. I'm thinking about the 30" barrel.

Anyone have one or handled one? Thoughts?

BOHICA is the lowest of the low end. At least one out-of-battery kaboom resulting in injuries that I am aware of. Suggest you look into Tactilite, Ferret, or ALS.

Kind of ironic considering the acronym.

Trust me, you are not the first to notice this.

I am looking at this too, Everything I have read about it has been positive. They probably had some QA issues early on but it sounds like they've got it sorted out now.

man there are sooooooooooo many used .50's out there its pathetic. standard drill here is "more money than brains" exactly the same with .500 smith and wessons. "I'm bad and i have some dough and bigger is better", then reality sets in the very 1st time they buy ammo and then REALITY REALLY SETS IN WITH MUZZLE BLAST and RECOIL!

and the other part of reality.....................most ranges DO NOT HAVE THE ABILITY to handle a .50 cal. and here right now until the rains set in it is illegal to shoot ANYWHERE in the dez or the forest.

so yer limited on where and when you can use them. dont get me wrong, we machined alot of parts for barrett and mcmillian. they are cool, they have tamed recoil. but its like owning a cessna citation. a lot of dough, limited very limited resale to those in the know, and ya better know yer backdrop or yer gonna get sued into the stoneage if ya nail somejuan accidently.

ben avery range here outlawed them because rounds were impacting over the mtn and hitting the federal medium security prison, going over a MOUNTAIN!

iraq and afghan is a good place to play with these i will admit and they fer sure have their place in my book.

Interesting, because Tactilite has a recall in progress.

Nope, recall was completed some time ago. Also note they did the recall without anyone having to bleed.

wasn't this a Barrett? I can't find what caused the Bohica to explode. There are claims that it was his reloads but it would be nice to know for sure.

Got the answer on the Bohica failure....

the accident was attributed to bad ammunition. More specifically ammunition that was improperly sized and primed. It was a DTC rifle that used a Wildcat of the 50BMG to get around Cali’s stupid 50 BMG ban.

This is not the failure mode of bad ammo. This is a clear OOB detonation.

I plan on getting an AR-50. I figured bolt-action is the way to go.

Ouch.

If a .50 BMG goes off in your proximity in an uncontrolled fashion, you're pretty well fked.

Was it here on pelican that i read the article about a soldier that tried hammering a turret pin into place with a .50bmg round?

It went off. His hand became instant vaporware.

I thought about posting a photo from that same article, but its too gory for OT.
