Wind Power Failures

Some blame the auto-breaking systems, the mast and others the gearing and bearings and even the gear oil while still others say its a grounding issue.

Here are some pics you won't see published. I don't know what that the stats of frequency but at over $2M each thats gotta get the attention of a few folks!

If you do a search on youtube, you should be able to find a catastrophic failure that makes this look tame. The thing spins out of control and then explodes.

That's quite a carbon emission you've got there.

Awesome photos, thanks for posting them.

Lube's pun is punny.

The gear oil specs for those boxes are crazy nuts - has to last 20 years! I costs thousands to get your stuff tested to be approved. The market isn't big yet to justify when compared to other markets. Each box takes about 40gl of oil. Getting it up there to change is a bit of an issue. If I was to design it, I would have had a line from ground leve to the top to test, drain and fill the oil.

We do sell some grease for the bearings - to date it works better than anything available.

Some of the ones I saw in The Netherlands were absolutely massive. It would be like a skyscraper exploding.

Pretty funny. So it automatically breaks???? :)

Do they have auto-braking?

LOL - good eye.

Well, this is just more proof of the Lucas electrical theory that the wires hold in the smoke.

Some one needs to hurry up and plug those damn wire holes. :D

rattlsnak 06-25-2010 10:17 AM

Clearly. And put a stop to any Governors who want to clear a fire break (sand berm?) around the dry grass below the grenading generators.

petes334 06-25-2010 11:18 AM

That was a crazy video. Imagine the sound that it made.

pwd72s 06-25-2010 11:22 AM

The "greens" dismiss the raptor birds these thing kill...far as I'm concerned, they are one big FAIL!

Joeaksa 06-25-2010 02:34 PM

Hmmm. And I have two smaller windmills that we were getting ready to put up on the ranch... Better make them a bit further away from the house! :)

Jim Sims 06-25-2010 02:59 PM

Old news for those in the wind turbine field.

cgarr 06-25-2010 03:06 PM

What I don't understand is if we replace our oil rigs with these wind gadgets where do we get the gear oil so we can operate the windmills?
