iPhone...which to buy ?
A friend had three iPhone 3g for his family and is buying the new iPhone 4 soon. He offered to sell one or two to me for $100 each. These are NOT the 3gs but are 16gig. I see that Walmart is offering the 3gs for $97 new but don't really know if they actually have them in stock. I see the 3gs going on ebay for well over $100. I've never owned or used an iphone. Guess I'm a dino

I would go for a new phone over a used phone only because of the battery. The battery is not something designed to be replaced, and iPhones are battery hogs.

I got the iphone 3gs just recently and had to check in periodically at walmart because they never had any.
it's certainly more than a phone. if you have an aux output from your radio, you can stream music from slacker for free which is far better than pandora in my opinion. thumbs way up on the iphone for me. now i don't have to listen to lame augusta radio any more. |

The new 4 16gig is $199. I would not buy a 3G.

If your up for a 2 year agreement, you can get the iphone at AT&T, etc. Well, you may have to wait if they don't have it in stock. I'd do that over a used pnone. On the other hand, if you Google iPhone battery replacement, you can get a new battery to replace it yourself for about $10.
After 22 months, my battery just crapped out and I've sent it to Apple under the Applecare plan for a new one. I'm not using the replacement until they tell me iPhone is covered under warranty or they can charge me up to $500 for a new one. In that case it's going back and I'll go to AT&T to reup my agreement for two years and get a new one for $99. |

ATT was selling the 8Gig 3G for $50 for a refurb a while ago. At that price, it becomes a throw away if it goes south. I bought one, and franky I doubt I'll ever load it up to capacity, it's at less than 20% used after 5 months of use.
Check the ATT website.

I'd go with a new i4, rather than a used but having said that, when I look at iphones on ebay they are going for $200 to $325 for used 3G and 3GS respectively. I don't understand that but my son just sold his 3GS for $325 and covered the cost of his new iphone4 32 gig.
Why people not buying from ATT or Apple, are these phones going offshore, what's the story? |

People are buying them on ebay to use on other carriers. Lots go overseas but here in the US they are all being jailbroken, unlocked and T-Mobilized. I don't know why though, T-Mobile does not have 3G so the phone is only fully functional via WiFi.

I checked today. They still have the $50 offer going for 8Gig 3G refurbs. If it has the same warranty as new...?
