Two days in Glasgow?

I have Monday and Tuesday free - and no car. Never been there before. What's the best use of my time? I'd like to see the countryside and/or the ocean... The rest of the week will be in Faslane and Coulport, so that may be enough water for the time being.

Mike

Am working on the fitting-in thing. After years of only going to London and Reading, beer here is ridiculously cheap! There seems like a good music scene too.

Hitting the city today - looking for a place out of town to go tomorrow. Likely up towards Ft. William or Oban.

Instead of that chit-hole town, get on the bus (they call it a coach) and do the 20 minute ride to Edinborough. A really beautiful city.

For the good of the community at large, I'll continue this thread.

Today was pretty pleasant. Walked through the University of Glasgow and saw the Hunterian collection - that guy collected some crazy random stuff, when he wasn't preserving other random body parts.

Lunch at Number 16 on Byres(?) St. was darn good. Kinda fancy-pants, but a good value. Number 16 Restaurant, Modern British Cuisine, Glasgow, West EndNumber 16 Restaurant, Modern British Cuisine, Glasgow, West End I'd go back any day.

The "world famous" Bon Accord on North St. seems to meet its reputation. Maybe 10 casks ales on this afternoon and a wall of whisky to envy. Nice folks with lots of suggestions of things to do and see.

And I seem to have swans-a-swimming in the Clyde outside my hotel room...

Seems like a fun city.

Tomorrow, Oban I think...

I'm from Michigan - I kind of like that recovering post-apocalyptic gritty reborn city thing. Glasgow doesn't seem too bad. Haven't met anybody from Trainspotting, not that I've looked too hard. With the water, it kind of feels like Chicago to me.

I'm sure Edinburgh is nice. Maybe we'll be up this way in the autumn and go there on the way to the north parts...
