Heck of a thing to do to a Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG...

Leaving Lowe's today (imagine that) my Son spots this Benz with black duct tape holding the front end on.

I'm not up on the CLS class but I imagine they fetch something slightly north of 90 large.

Ya can't afford to fix it? And whats with the Lambo badge on the rear and side panels?

Is this ghetto or what???

What........the........fark?

That's just wrong. Aside from the ghetto rigging... If you've got one of the faster cars on the road, why stupify it by putting badges from another car on it?? For what that cost, they could have bought a few year old Lambo...

They made sure the oil level was OK before sealing it up...

It may seem weird but put yourself in their shoes.

Long road trip to somewhere and you hit something... Car is damaged but still drivable.
$20 of Gaffer tape and you're on your way again. Car will be fixed properly in new location.

Feasible?

(The Lambo badges are just bad taste)

Could be test mule for a facelift? they often tape them up like to cover details ahead of the official launch. I've also seen spy shots where that put other badges on to confuse those that don't know better

Yup, that is not a lower rear valence from an AMG. They just facelifted the SLS, so I doubt it's a test mule. Fake AMG badges and a Lambo badge, I'm leaning towards simple bad taste. As for the front, God only knows.

This is sort of OT but I always wonder who buys a car like a CLS63? What the heck do you do with it? how many 0-65 blasts can you do? A fast track car makes sense to me these kind of cars don't. Poser mobile IMHO

The shape the front plate is in suggests they ran into something. Maybe mommy and daddy decided that it was time that Jr learns to deal with his own automotive problems?

A buddy of mine sells Mercedes'. A lot of people apparently come in and ask for "the best" or "the most expensive" version of a particular model. A lot of people. Particularly people from Asia. It's not really about the performance so much. It's about buying "the best".

I see a lot of that around here. And not just Asians but they're definitely guilty. I see ossified, geriatric people driving 600hp AMG Benzes as rolling speed-bumps-holding up a lane of traffic all the time. Or Korean women, (I live in Koreatown), driving 997 turbo tiptronics when they'd really be happier piloting a Camry or a minivan. It's all about the posing and irony is non-existent to them.

EDIT: Sorry, that was @ Dottore

This is a very interesting topic in relation to Asians in particular. I did a fair bit of reading on it at one point; ie; the impact of a pictogram language on a peoples' culture and sensibility over time. Fascinating stuff. I mean we formulate thoughts with the words of our language. Imagine trying to think ironically in a language composed of pictograms. The mind boggles.

True. It's 100% cultural. The American-born offspring are no different from anyone else here when it comes to humor, etc... Some of the cleverest and most hilarious comics in the land are 2nd generation Asians such as my friend Bobby Lee. A lot of the most biting humor involves his parents and their toughness + other ethnic traits.
