joe i bought scads of federal .22 36gr and .22 40gr MATCH a long while back and am still sitting on an obscene amount of .22 36 gr.
my younger spawn and i burned up one hell of alot of the .22 40gr MATCH at the combat wombat shoots. never with any FTF or FTE or PFFFTT! i have (2) .22 rifles and (2) pistols and they seem to just eat it up and they are HAPPY. make a bulk buy from ammotogo.com or budsguns.com or cdnn.com or j&g sales.com up in prescott,az. but with j&g ya have to pay tax. so check out freight costs vs. tax on federal. when i say bulk i mean 1000/2500/5000/10K thats where ya get yer breaks. sportsmens, bass, cabelas, bear arms, scottsdale spoon club sometimes have specials. prices are dropping like a rock. today i found magtech .44 mag 240 SJHP for 25.99 at of all places snobbsdale spoon club. everywhere on the internet they want a minimum of 29.99 per box of 50 plus shipping. i just picked up a 1000 of magtech .357 SJHP for 399.99 out da door adios from SGC. yer gonna have to do a damn hard sale on me with any other .22 round ever besides federal. they just work period. every damn time. when ya buy 500/1000 of pistol or rifle its the best deal.

You've made quite a few assumptions and you know what that does
![]() I totally enjoy spoons, driving 1000 miles this weekend to get my S&W4006 back. I find killing anything for a 'hoot' obnoxious at best. I do apologize for calling you a name though, not a nice thing to do.

Hunting is honorable. Most hunters I know have a deep and abiding respect for the food they kill. To kill anything for the sake of entertainment is something I'd expect from young boys who have not yet developed any real spirituality or respect for the beauty of nature.

This type of video is as sick as torturing dogs or cats, burning ants with a magnifying glass or stuffing a firecracker into a frog. There is no great surprise who posted this and thought it was great. It speaks volumes as to the character of those who enjoyed watching it. And just to enlighten the ignorant, the hunting lobby in France is quite strong. Hunting is a popular and cherished part of the French countryside.

If you didn't like the squirrel vid, then definitely don't look at this: Prairie Dog Be Gone! - Video Images
BTW, squirrels are varmints that cause thousands in property damage by chewing on wires and causing house fires. They need to be hunted/controlled.... Especially in the city. You guys should see what we do with wild hogs here in TX. If you don't like the content, then don't follow the step-by-step instructions to see something that offends you enough to post about it......

If you see what one has to do to get a hunting license over here... a long way from those gun toting rednecks killing animals for fun... And OJU, if you like this, it's obvious that you are not a hunter either. This is like that Maxim character boasting that he crashed a car because he was driving like an idiot and thought it was cool... It's not, dude, it is not.

I'm solidly with milt & co. here. Hunting is one of the most abhorrent activities I can think of. Go spend some time hiking/camping and observing animals in the wild. They're beautiful in a way that people can never be.
How many people actually NEED to hunt to put food on their tables? Seriously - especially here in contemporary modern American society where there's at least one or two 60,000+ square foot grocery stores in every single town in America. Are there seriously people that are so poor that they can't find SOMETHING fit for human consumption in the local grocery store and literally have to go out and blow some animal's brains out, skin it and gut it in order to survive? If there are, that percentage is EXTREMELY small. Anyone here on the Internet (access to which costs money) hanging out on a Porsche board by default does not fall into this category. Rodents and other "problem" animals that people are concerned about carrying disease and so-forth can be gotten rid of by a number of non-lethal means, not the least of which is simply not leaving food around (ya slob!) Lots of ultrasonic devices and other things around these days that are quite effective. Or simply having pets helps (cats, dogs = deterrent for little critters to come around - they know better). Therefore a rational person can only conclude that on some level, everyone who hunts (except for dirt-poor, subsistence-level individuals that might exist in the back woods of Appalachia or wherever) does so by CHOICE, not necessity. The choice to take a living, breathing, healthy, sentient and self-aware animal which is simply living out its life and go blasting holes in it, then watching it trash around in agony as the life ebbs out of its body is simply disgusting. It's unnecessary and I can see no justification for it. It's a haven for the type of people that used to get their thrills from ripping the wings off of butterflies and lighting caterpillars and ants on fire with magnifying glasses as children. It's a pathology and a rationalization of violence glorification. And don't give me this crap about "it keeps the animal populations in check". Nature does that just fine. Don't give me the crap about "those animals would die from predation anyway". Wrong - predators deliberately target the sick/lame/old animals, not the healthy ones in their prime. Don't give me the crap about "hunting makes a boy a man". Wrong. Hunting makes a boy a disturbed boy. I'm sure we all know plenty of individuals who are grown up, adult, rational and mature human beings who never had the "need" to get there by killing some animal just for "fun". As I said above, abhorrent.

I second OJU's affinity for Federal .22 value packs. They are very reliable for .22 as .22 rimfire ammo goes and will run in most guns. The best price I ever see them for is always at Walmart in the red boxes of 550. Last I checked they were around $20/box. I probably still have about 10 boxes at this time.
A good friend who has always used CCI "green box" and recently CCI "select" for his .22 bullseye pistol league (he wins the league almost every year) tried some of my "cheap" Federal and his 6 shot groups at 25', 40' and 50' (dime at 25' and quarter at 50') remained the same with both his Optic equipped trusty Buckmark and through his iron sighted SW model 41 competition pistols.

Guess you guys are not interested in the real story about these varmints. Wait until they cause a fire in a house while you are inside. Ask me, its happened to my house when I lived back in the mid-west and its not a fun experience.
Squirrel ignites 3,000-degree fireball *|* Yukon News Squirrel ignites 3,000-degree fireball Friday April 17, 2009 Yukon Electrical lineman Richard Zebruck holds up the cause of Thursday’s power outage. The squirrel shorted out a breaker at the Mountainview substation. The smell of fried squirrel lingered in the air. An hour earlier, the frolicking rodent triggered a fireball atop a substation that damaged electrical equipment and shut down power to the southern Yukon for an hour on Thursday morning. About 2,400 amps of electricity flowed through the animal, cooking it at about 3,000 degrees Celsius, said Jay Massie, superintendent of operations at Yukon Electrical Co. Ltd. ![]() ![]() Finally, if that was not enough for you, here is more. When squirrels inhabit an attic, they chew to wear their teeth, and damage wood rafters, ceiling joists and electrical conductors. The bare live conductors here can cause a fire, or electrical shock and needs immediate attention; repair, removal of all soiled insulation, and review of all electrical wiring in the attic by licensed electrician and repairs made as determined. The place needs to be sanitized and re-insulated. This is costly and certainly is dangerous. ![]()

I have to be honest here POP, I believe you have a real disconnect with your actual personal impact on sentient animals. Anyone who believes food comes from a grocery store is living in a state of denial. What is the difference between, buying a turkey at the grocery store, raising a turkey and slaughtering it, or harvesting one with a hunting license? (We're just talking about the bird here, not the remarkable amount of destruction done by supporting commercial agriculture, which is far more abhorrent than harvesting and consuming local game.)

This is an interesting position to take. Do you believe humans are separate from nature? I believe that humans, as omnivorous predators, have a role to perform within nature. If humans are not part of nature, when did we separate from nature, did all humans separate from nature, and why are those who still perform nature's selected role for humans abhorrent?

I view nearly all furry creatures on my property other than our pets as pests. They all suffer the same fate if me or my wife or my daughters see them. ![]() Luckily we still live in a rural farming area where the likes of PETA would not be welcome by anyone including most of the local law enforcement. That said, I have never took a shot at a deer on our property as they are too much hassle to get rid of. (not to mention it is illegal and the thought of going to jail or paying a big fine at this point pisses me off more than the thought of one of the bastards running out in front me when landing my airplane or jumping in front of my car driving to work... that could change someday if the deer herd keeps growing)
