				New BMW Six cylinder cycle

Seems like a noble effort, but I hate heavy motorcycles.

Neat idea but bound to be "typical" modern BMW bikes - ridiculously costly, saddled with WAY too much silly and needless electronic garbage and expensive as all hell to maintain.

Don't get me wrong, there's a certain part of me that LOVES their bikes. I was recently very, VERY tempted by a 1200RS, but I ended up walking away simply because I can't trust all the electronics thingys. I just can't. Beautiful bike though - and rode like a dream. But the thought of all that could go wrong simply scared me off. A bike is no fun when it's in the shop at $150 an hour, and I suspect that could happen PLENTY with one of these. I love the idea of a 6-cyl though. But make mine carbureated please.

This may be something I need to look at in the future - I'm seeking a heavier, more touring-type ride than my trusty Katana 750.

That is a Honda CBX. Early 1978 to 1982. Heavy, wide and syncing six carbs was not much fun. But it was smooth and fast.

![]() Just for giggles: ![]() Kawasaki made some notorious motorcycles in the 1970s, most notably the H1 triple with its hellacious two-cycle power curve. This custom monster boast 48-cylinders, six crankshafts and six Jaguar E-type distributors. Yeah, it’s kinda hairy.

I'm not sure I see the point. I test rode a K1300S, which has 175 HP, IIRC. It was stupid fast. Not sure what the point of making it faster is. Maint. on the watercooled bikes is a little more difficult to DIY and expensive at the dealer. Boxers are super easy to DIY, which is why I stick with them. My bike has about 130 HP and just about yanks my arms out of socket.

I hope they mount the engine like the CBX, if they did this. That 48-cylinder thing above would probably be a complete piece of crap to ride. With the angular momentum of the rotating assembly in one of those lengthwise-mounted-engine bikes, it must be absolutely impossible to make the bike turn. Not to mention the CG is high as hell.

Not sure I understand their approach...along with many others on the I-BMW board. I currently own a K1200S (straight 4). It's uncharacteristic for a company like BMW to abandon a new engine design so quickly. This engine made it's debut in 2005 on the original S. The engine itself has been bullet proof. Some fueling issues in early versions, but that's been long resolved.

In 1200 form, the power/torque provides eye-ball flattening acceleration from almost any RPM. I haven't ridden a 1300 but supposedly they pulled the band a bit lower and raised the ceiling a bit. But, sweet mother of God....how much faster should this bike be??? The first time I whacked the throttle open at 6k rpms (red line is 11k), I almost puked in my helmet it pulled so friggin hard.
