i gave up, and hired a landscape architect..

i know my limits. i recently let my lawn die in anticipation of a mandated drought plan. zero watering. simple enough, until it rains and rains and rains..and the water dept says, "our bad..water away citizens!!" my lawn was already dead.
i have zero vision. i would just sod away my rectangle of earth..LAME. i found a guy that does nothing but drought tolerant landscaping using native stuff, and stuff found in Australia. his quick sketch was BADASS! he is charging me very little for a detailed plan..and some follow up consultation. i get to DIY it all. the plan is cool..i essentially build up from existing grade. no digging out my old lawn, no trenching for waterlines..i will need to drop some $$ on top soil, and decomposed granite.. he suggest some high tech perforated waterlines run throughout his islands of plants. focal point will be some manzanita plant..

malibu lighting..can you imagine it? right now, i am "that" neighbor..pulling down property value. work demoing starts this summer to build the clean slate..then fall..i build the front yard.. did i mention ZERO MOWING?

Time to hand in your man card - landscape architect???

Manzanita? You may be able to start archery bear season in your back yard! They love that stuff before the acorns are ripe!

I am not sure why you don't just put concrete slab? More room for project cars if you have side yard access.

George
