I have another thread on the 993/964 tech board. It ain't a relay. If it were, it's be an all or nothing kind of thing. Yes, it was crazy hot today, but the a/c was losing some of its juice after the range session. Still cool, but not ice cold. It's a leak or something gradual.

Hmmm, don't know how far you've dug into it, but a few other possibilities:
Compressor clutch
Evap fan
T-stat switch
expansion joint (rarely seen these fail).
You should probably have it pressure tested first. Most indy shops and even local flaps (Pep Boys, etc.) should be able to handle it. It certainly doesn't have to be a p-car wrench, or dealer.
