Whats the worst thing you've done to yourself when working at home

for me its scrapped knuckles and I gassed myself once with brake clean and a tooth brush cleaning an aluminum engine block with the garage all sealed up, the wife came out to talk to me and called me out side, after some fresh air i was ok except for the pounding headache, to this day brake clean makes me gag, didn't even realize I was gassing my self

Yanked the fuel line off the carbs on the bike a few weeks ago and got the entire line contents into my right eye and in my mouth. Bad headache, nausia, and a burning eye but I was fine. Other than that just lots of cuts and bruises I guess.

i dropped a '66 mustang transmission on my big toe, spindle first. yeah, that one really really hurt.

Decided it was time I tried out the table saw because "How hard could it be?" Well next thing ya know the table saw ripped the piece of plywood out of my hands, launched it accross the garage, over the '73, and smashed into the refrigerator door. I laugh everytime I see that door know and wonder what if. Probably the scariest power tool incident I have had as of late.

You were lucky you were on the wrong side of the saw. I had a piece of molding hit me right above my junk. I had a black and blue jones for 2 weeks.

Transmission on the toe....that one made my butt grab the leather.

I replaced the baseboards in my home with larger 10". I was on the last couple cuts and in a hurry as I was late picking up a friend. Ended up "touching" the top of my wrist (it was a compound angle cut) with the running blade... blood flew 5 ft in the opposite direction. I wrapped it tight with an old t-shirt and after decided I couldn't safely drive to ER in my 911 & keep pressure on wound so I knocked on a neighbor's door for help. A bunch of stitches but no permanent damage - thankfully!

I got lucky. Very lucky. I was probably 16 and had no idea what I was doing. Now I pay attention!

Far too many to go through...

Caught myself on fire way back in 1975 or so. Smelled fuel when turning the corner to the house. Pulled in the driveway and shut the car off. Opened the trunk to the car where the fuel pumps were located. Wrong thing to do it seems.

It let oxygen into the area and it went whoosch and then things got exciting. Jumped to the lawn and started rolling around to kill the fire. Friend who was at the house got the extinguisher and went after the fire, saving the car.

Turns out one of the fuel lines had started to leak and the back part of the trunk was soaking in fuel. With contacts in the fuel pump providing the spark it had started a small fire but was contained until I opened the trunk and provided all the oxygen it needed...

Was crispy crittered from the waist up and hair was a friz. It grew back for the most part. The car is sitting in my garage today but you can still see signs of where it burned if you look close.

Have got more but Johnco will beat us all, so no need...

Worst I did to myself... 944 trans on my right side, doing a clutch job. The trans had to come out. I had it balanced on a jack and told myself "I have to hold this perfectly still or else *CRUNCH*. Yeah, dislocated shoulder. Not fun. Still had to finish the clutch job that week :\

I have no idea what even happened to this day, but I was prepping the cabin of the '72 to lay down sound deadening and carpet. Lots of cleaning and wiping down with solvents. Started to get irritated, as I noticed I had to keep cleaning this one area on the bulkhead near where I was resting my leg; it kept getting tracked with grease. Eventually I had to think, 'wait, there's not a micron of grease left in this cabin, what is that coming from?' Took a closer look (I had foggy goggles on) and noticed it wasn't grease, it was blood. Thick, dark, gooey blood. Couldn't figure out where it was from. Took inventory and eventually noticed the 10" gash right down my left shin. Whole calf was matted down with gore and gibs, and judging by the color, it had been open for quite some time.

Never did feel a thing, and don't even know when/where it happened. It took 4 months before the scab finally went away and left a scar. Never did hurt.

Probably have done worse, can't think of anything else right now.

Really, I did tighten up a bit when I read that. But, I think this thread is gonna get worse. There have been a few of these over the years.

Fortunately, I have 2 eyes, 10 fingers and 10 toes after playing with power tools for all these years. I once cut my finger so deep while using lead filler on a body part that I didn't pull out the lead tools for some 20 years. Maybe longer because I didn't lead another car until I got the '71 S in '04.

That's what I figured, I just couldn't help it.

I'm still intact too. But I'm only 30, so I've got a lot of time left to hurt myself. I've busted enough knuckles that every time I start to push/pull hard on a wrench I try to set myself up at an angle so that won't happen. I did a clutch last weekend with only one thumb smash. At least I'm showing improvement!

Fell off a ladder when building this house. Broke leg in 2 places and ripped foot loose from leg. Foot just flopped around. By myself.....Drug myself across floor, fainted for awhile. Pulled myself into chair. Cell phone out in truck......Felt better after about 10-15 minutes. Got up and hopped on one foot across the room where a 1x4 board was that would work for a crutch.....Had parked 100 ft. from house due to snow/mud. Somehow made it thanks to the 1x4 board.

Made it to the truck and started driving the 90 miles home. Foot wouldn't work to use the brake, used emerg brake.......Called wife and said to have her car & crutches out to take me to the hospital. Was a long day.......Worst pain ever.

Could have called 911 once I was to my truck, but they would have taken me 25 miles the opposite direction to the nearest hospital. Easier to just drive home once I got moving.....

I was cleaning the cat box and poured some chlorine into it to get it extra clean.

The gas emitted knocked me on my ass completely.

Learned a valuable lesson: Don't be stupid especially when you already knew what would happen.

I drilled my middle finger on my left hand - about 1/2 way through - with a hand drill & a 7/32 bit. The nerves to the finger tip never recovered. I mean, they were hanging out . . .
