This happened about 2 miles from my house. And they did not remove the car before backfilling the hole.

Surprised the Hazmat people would leave the car down in the hole before filling it up.

Did they put heavy mud and concrete in the hole as well? I agree with Joe, it seems like a hazmat thing to leave a car down there, but I guess the option of getting a crane and someone to actually go in the hole and retrieve the car would be a lot more painful. Unless it was a dodge ramcharger, then you could just fire it up and Chuck Norris your way out of the hole!

i had a project where when the soil test bores were done, they found an Airstream travel trailer buried under ground.
The land owner owned the property for 20+ years and had no idea it was there.
Maybe it was some attempt at a bomb shelter from the 60's

+1 on the hazmat issue with a car being buried, won't the gas contaminate the ground water?

If there is anything that freaks me out, it's sinkholes.

The news said the car sunk too fast and was completly gone before they could get a crane in to pull it out.
