Does this bother you?
I was out at the track today watching the NHRA drag races.
There was a HUGE pregnant woman there. We were about 50' from the track and I was metering 126dBA . I think it overwhelmed my sound meter, because I recorded the same level later in the day from way up in the grandstands. These are the dragsters that I can hear from my house, about ten miles away!! I wonder if her baby will have hearing loss. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1279418538.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1279419016.jpg ( or it'll be the next great drag racer ) KT |
Not sure if it does...

If would have definitely bother me if she was smoking, drinking or drugging to the point that she would have get a piece of my mind right then and there. There might be some study for that but it's not one of the top of problems. Mind you, that there is nothing wrong for you to be concern. You may have event want to discuss the subject with her (could have been a dicey situation). We live in a society that give us the liberty to do anything that ones want to do. As I tell my wife all the time, life is not fair... Why is it that we were born in North America enjoying the good life as oppose to have been born somewhere in Africa and starving to death... Don't know but maybe another glass will help: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1279420458.jpg Cheers J.J. |
From what I understand sound travels really well in the uterus and pregnant women aren't supposed to go to the shooting range etc.
As far as it bothering me...I guess I echo what JJ said. |
How do you know she's prego, might just be a fattie.

Kid is floating in liquid, which transmits sound well, could not do them any good.

Her tattoo bothers me more. ;)
126dBA is very high. But what can you do? |
it'll backfire (pun) on her, the kid will not want to go to the drag races.....or shoot guns

Sad. I'm thinking there's a kid with a really bright future ahead of him or her.
Not. |
Where I'm from ,that just looks like a normal southern ohio beer gut. The one in the blue must be a prego too!

One data point, personally observed. We were expecting our first and was probably about 7 or 8 months along - not quite as far along as the woman pictured. I had been doing some work on my wife's car and she came out to check on me/whatever. She was standing in front of the car beside me as I dropped the hood closed, which made the expected thunk noise. She jumped back - as soon as I had dropped that hood, the baby kicked her from being startled. So yes, I'm sure that baby at the track was hearing that noise!

Purple used to be my favorite color until I saw that picture.

Yes it is bothersome.
I've never heard anything louder than 2 modern fuel cars at the hit. The way that humongous blast of sound and fury is so instantaneous, well, it just stands to reason that that can't be good for the kid. Not the worst example I've seen of parenting in public, though. (those are great seats, btw!) |

As I'm reading this from my desk, I just heard the dragsters make a pass.

In my opinion, subjecting the unborn to repeated 126 dBA blasts all day is STUPID.
Being born with hearing loss would be a shame. Mother would probably think to herself: "I wonder what caused that?" A couple years years ago, I went to see the dragsters. I wanted to 'just see' how loud it was. From about 200' away, it hurt. I couldn't get my fingers in my ears quick enough. KT |
You guys are a bunch of nosey old hags.
