If you are doing 80 in the fast lane while the cars in the lane next to you are only doing 65, you are driving too fast. 15 above the flow is too much, both for safety, and also for getting a ticket.

In your scenario, I'd move over as quickly as possible, let him go. Then he's out of your life and he'll get the ticket. Unless the cars next to you are bumper to bumper doing 65, it's easy to merge in.

I'll tell you what serves as entertainment on the road. Very young and on a long drive, I didn't really know at the time that you didn't run between big trucks in a convoy. I was inside just saving gas when the truck in front of me moved to the shoulder and sprayed rocks all over me.

I had a CB monitoring trucker chat when he came on loud and clear.

"I just dusted that four wheeler back there...ha, ha, ha..."

You learn to drive by driving. I doubt if I'll hit a million miles in a life time like the truckers do every 10 years, but I'll get close.

Tailgaters are never a problem for me. I don't care how fast I'm going, if someone comes up fast behind me and gets real close, I just pull over and let them go. I don't take it personally, or view myself as a traffic "enforcer." I just don't care to do that. I'll happily let the maniac go ahead and be someone else's problem.

That's great that you don't tailgate when the guy has no place to move over, but there are a lot of azzholes who don't care.

With that said, the fact that you are willing to tailgate... ever... tells us you're not much better/smarter/aware than those azzholes.

Your desire to go faster does not give you the right to endanger the lives of others.

Grow up before you are responsible for a death... or deaths.

Your personal life/world view of the situation may permit you to assert that the person who wouldn't get out of your way would be at fault.

But you'd be wrong.

Blame-anyone-but-yourself won't cut it when people are dead and you were tailgating and couldn't stop in time.

Also, you apparently haven't thought about the fact that you could die in such a situation.

I have nothing against you personally, but you should seriously look at your level of self-centeredness if you're willing to risk lives in order to go as fast as you want to.

This is the real piece of wisdom in the entire thread. No driver is the police. If someone wants to go faster let them. Choose a speed that you're comfortable with, and stick to it (don't speed up to prevent someone getting in front of you). If you really think somebody is dangerous, call the cops & put as much distance between them & you (since they are speeding, not speeding or stopping is the most effective).

That "crazy" guy may be that football player rushing to see his dying mother (remember the guy that got arrested by the cop & missed his mother's last words?) or the doctor going to save your family member in the ER.

What drove me crazy in California was seeing people blast by at 70+ in the HOV lane while the No. 1 lane was crawling at 10-20, and only a painted stripe separating them. A 50 mph speed differential. Insane. Those HOV speeders are one moron's impatient swerve away from death.

and yet it just isn't common.
