I have a soft spot for old bugs. My dad always had one when I was growing up. It's what I learned to drive a stick shift on.

And I'm currently trying to sell one, so if anyone is interested check it out!

I have a 1970 Yukon Yellow Bug. I had the engine rebuilt 3 or so years ago. It's a 1641 dual port. Runs very strong. It was my DD during the winter but now it sits more than it rolls. I need to do a little restoration. I'm searching for a local painter (East Bay, CA) that will do a good job without braking the bank. Anyone know of any let me know.

The interior is becoming trash but that's pretty easy to replace. I think the sun has done some damage to the interior. I really need to get a good all weather cover for this winter and perhaps take the dog for a spin in it.

Of course everyone already knows that they are great cars. Driving it is like stepping back in time. And please don't be in a hurry. Still loads of fun. Maybe I'll take a current photo and post it later.

The value of these cars keep rising too. Can't wait for the mini restoration.

Spotted today in Taylor, Michigan.

It smelled funny inside (musty), engine was sprayed all black, and I'm not sure if it's an automatic or a manual. Has clutch pedal but an odd shifter.

That SB would feel like it was going to shake apart from 55-60 mph, then smooth out. Replaced everything, ball joints, tie rods, struts, progressive springs, front disc brakes. Like a damn go cart. When the P car goes in for paint, the steel wheels go on it and the Fuchs go on the bug. Should fit, because the springs are tapered in the middle. I imagine with more tire it will be transformed.

I love em. I have one that is blended with a Porsche 911. Look at my garage. Indeed I had a window sticker made up that reads, "designed by Germans, blended by an Irishman". I am Irish but live in the UK. the Porsche is an evolution of the Bug and when my financial situation evolves, I will own a Porsche!! However, I have had a great deal of fun and tribulation during the last 3 years getting the car back on the road but I have a perverse side to me that justs loves sorting out problems and issues. Indeed. I pulled my engine with that book when I was at university. Carried it up six flights of stairs to my dorm room with my buddy, and then spent the next three weeks completely rebuilding it on my desk.

Popped it back in the car and she ran like a top.

One of the best "how to" books of all time IMO.

I think every college student should own an old bug with a bad engine. It might teach them something valuable, and provide great memories, and stories for the grand kids to boot.

Love them! Went through 5 of them once I started driving. But I don't think I want to be in one of them considering how fast everyone is driving nowadays not to mention the countless lunatics out there. I want to live longer.

1971 superbeetle which I rebuilt myself, 1969 purple with fiberglass flares, 1968 which I painted myself, 1965 already modified which I sold to a kid who rolled it over causing me to lose my license for 6 months, 1970 last one which is also my favorite (see my avatar).

My daily driver is a '73 super. Most fun car to drive that I've ever owned.

My wife also has owned a '71 Super for about ten years now. She read the article in VW Trends back in '02 about using Porsche brakes/suspension/wheels, and decided that it was what she wanted to do. It drove, and braked so much better that I wanted to build one for myself, but using a 914 based drivetrain.

Very cool Bugs!

I do love bugs. My first car was a 1969 bug. I have had several different years and makes of VWs. My all time favorite though was my 1970 Karmann Ghia coupe. It had a 2.2 liter motor and would do a 14 second 1/4 on street tires.
Here it is at Baylands Raceway in Fremont California around 1983 or so. I wish the picture quality was a bit better. It was a beautiful car!
