When it's hot and dry it's not too bad. Right now it is hot and humid! If I were you I would fly into PHX, rent a car and drive up to Sedona (about one hour and 45 min drive from Phoenix).

It was actually almost chilly today. It can get silly hot, but it's been raining the last two days, so that's cooled it off a bit. Be sure to let the gang know so we can get together. I think Oddjob wants to treat us all to Morton's.

Advice: Stay at Rick's house and let him be your tour guide
![]() Swimming pools (look out the airplane window as you land) Cactus (everywhere - don't touch) Western art Scenic views (can see for miles and miles - no trees in the way) One day driving trip Phx, Wickenburg, Prescott, Jerome, Sedona, and back to Phx. Enjoy... Roy |

I have stayed at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge 4 times. Highly recommended even if it's the crazy hot part of the season. Stay indoors till the sun tips and sit in their fabulous mountain view jacuzzis (they have 3-4 of them riming the property) with your favorite adult beverage. Lots of great local eats within a couple miles if you want to venture away from the property otherwise the in house food is excellent (but of course pricey).

Something silly is going on here in Arizona. Tourism was up 6% in June, and now 11% in July. These are two of the three worst months we have.
Will be busy from the 8th to the 17th, otherwise should be here on and off. The recommendation for Sedona was a good one, as is several other areas up North. They are an hour-90 minute drive so not bad. If you can wait another month to six weeks it starts getting cooler then but if not there are times now that are nice. High today is 91 and forcast tomorrow is for 96, so not bad.

Don't go to Sedona on a weekend.
Driving up there via Wickenburg, Prescott and Jerome is a very nice day and then back down the 17 to get back to Phoenix. That Marriott is Desert Ridge in almost jogging distance from my house. But I hate the traffic around Desert Ridge. If not for the dirt cheap Total Wine store there, I'd avoid the place altogether. Hey Dueller, are you bringing the twins? ![]()

If you're out over a Saturday evening the Pavilion's Car Show is always fun.

We like the Boulders up in/near Cave Creek. Maybe a little dated and not up to JW Marriott/Fairmont resort standards, but MUCH more laid back. Not a water park, just a decent pool with food/bev service. Cute little casitas with comfy beds. Highbrow golf course if you're into that. Probably located near some Pelican-people, too.
We go every Labor Day. The wife satisfies herself getting heat stroke at the pool, I cower inside with football, a book and adult beverages from the nearby Safeway. She's happy - therefore I'm happy. NOCA at about 32nd and Camelback is awesome, too. Don't let the strip mall location fool you.

Dueller, if you want to be away from the hustle and bustle, don't even think of that Marriott at Desert Ridge. It's on the corner of Tatum and the 101 Loop. I've never stayed there, but there's a lot of traffic there at all hours. Joe, Oddjob and I all live pretty close to the Boulders and that's a really nice area. Scenery there is super and it's not too noisy. Mind you, that area is as far north as you can get and still be considered in the Phoenix area. So keep that in mind if you want to go to points south. Lots of good food in the area too. Joe, Oddjob and I all have pools, Porsches, bikes, guns and stocked refrigerators.

Thanks guys for the input and offers of hospitality. Thinking about the roads/scenery I think I might use the tickets to do something tropical and save AZ/NM/CO for a solo road trip in my 911 over the course of 10-14 days of loose let the wind blow me wherever itinerary. She should be ready about October and that would be a good time for a newly A/C gone beater.
