Cricket wireless internet: So slow my eyes are bleeding

Please allow me to warn you all away from this utterly substandard worthless piece of overpriced crap of a service.

Once you surpass the 5gb monthly download mark it is LITERALLY 1/4 the speed of 56k dial up. I am not kidding, it is a slower death than being consumed by the Mighty Sarlac from Return of the Jedi.

Seriously, if you have ANY other option, stay away.

Hehe, throttling sucks. I used to have to inflict that on my customers.

Time to hit the old public library.

Seriously though, they cut your speed when you go over the 5gb limit? Ouch. I thought it stayed the same speed but at exorbitant pricing.

Our Verizon has been great so far, but we haven't come close to the 5gb "unlimited" plan. We use it as wifi at home, so that helps.

One word get CLEAR, for $30 a month for one setup or $50 for 2, its good for streaming video and there is no limit. I use it in my trucks and at the office and as soon as Comcast is booted from my house I will be using it there also. They have an office on Roosevelt Blvd.

I still think you are too heavy of an internet user to rely on a cellular internet service.

The big carriers are spending billions to upgrade their networks, and they still can't keep up with data demand, they are going to forcibly segregate the heavy users who are consuming most of the capacity. ATT has gone to limited-GB plans with heavy surcharges to overage. VZ is reportedly going there next. Cricket is a little carrier, I think they own some network and buy some capacity from other carriers, they're going to be equally or more interested in making sure their customers are profitable ones.

Can't get cable broadband?

Clear's contract

Unlimited Use Plans. If you subscribe to a service plan that does not impose limits on the amount of data you may download or upload during a month, you should be aware that such “unlimited” plans are nevertheless subject to the provisions of this AUP. What this means is that all of the provisions described in this AUP, including those that describe how Clearwire may perform reasonable network management such as reducing the data rate of bandwidth intensive users during periods of congestion, will apply to your use of the Service. The term “unlimited” means that we will not place a limit on how much data you upload or download during a month or other particular period, however, it does not mean that we will not take steps to reduce your data rate during periods of congestion or take other actions described in this AUP when your usage is negatively impacting other subscribers to our Service.

I suggested Clear based on my experience with it, I was under the impression there was a reason that cable was not being used. This is based on an earlier thread that he posted. I have been using Clear for about a year now and I have never experienced a slowdown or reduction in bandwidth. I wasn't trying to be a wiseass or usurp your internet knowledge, just making a suggestion.

I have a friend who uses clear. It is pretty slow. I finally just figured out how to tether my verizon droid, and the verizon data is quite a bit faster - up to 3x or more - than the clear.
I am interested to see if Verizon starts to throttle my bandwidth.

I can see where IP companies should be able to throttle heavy-users bandwidth...as long as there is a proven situation of potentially overloading their network.

They should have to prove this though, and have a clear company statement to that effect.

They(legally) shouldn't be able to deliberately throttle their own "normal" customers, and then sell the remaining bandwidth at higher prices to other companies.
ATT should have plenty of capacity.....

Bah, where was this advice when my "what is the best wireless internet service" thread was running? LOL...

Verizon has to send out an engineering team to work on the underground wires(apparently they're fked here) to run me DSL. It is going to take several weeks, so i bought the cricket as a no-contract stopgap service to keep me in the loop with news, etc. Had i known how utterly pathetic it was, i would have just bought a subscription to the local newspaper instead....

Verizon is supposed to activate me before the end of the month.

I would sooner cut my own eyes out with broken glass than ever give comcast even one thin dime of my money. They are criminals and thieves.

Seriously, 5gb is NOT a lot of data usage for an entire month.
