weber carb rebuild manual?

The thread about seahawk's 356 makes me wanna get my 356 up and running again... parked it a few years ago with carb issues.

At this point, new tires, a new battery, flushing gas, breaks, and rebuilding the carbs would get it drivable again. All of which I can do - except the carb rebuild.

Anyone recommend a good manual for rebuilding Weber carbs? I've got 44-IDFs on it, gonna need to do a rebuild of them and then re-synch them...

When I rebuilt my Zeniths, there's not really a manual per se, just exploded parts diagrams which came with the gasket kit I ordered from Pelican (you have to use new gaskets and seals). If you label everything carefully while taking it apart, there's not much to it. I video'd each piece as I removed it, then numbered each one (saying the # out loud on the video, too), so I could use the video when putting everything back together. I put all the pieces in individual ziploc bags (labelled with the # I'd assigned them in the videos as I pulled them off the carb bodies) and filled the bag with parts cleaner, then let them soak for a couple days, and let the main carb bodies soak in a bucket full of parts cleaner. After that, one at a time I'd empty the bag, wash the part and put it in a fresh bag, dry, also labelled with the #. Blow carb cleaner through the bodies and all the holes and corners in the bodies, then compressed air to dry it all out, then reassemble, using the new gaskets from the kit. Pretty straightforward. I was hoping I'd learn a lot more about how carbs work by doing this. Nope.

The Carbs are real simple to rebuild. Parts houses sell a gallon can of carb dip with a basket to soak the carb parts in over night. You will need to sight all the jet holes with a light sores,Wash all parts with soap and water after the soak and blow out all passages with air. Most carb kits come with a speck sheet for reassembly. Don't over tighten anything and you should be fine. It might be better if you do one at a time so you will have a reference on reassembly.

Couldn't find a Zenith manual, but Haynes has a Weber manual that has the 44IDF. Also ran across a Solex manual (for earlier cars) that describes each part of the carburetor, how it works, and how to choose the right one.

Probably not. I'm a mechanical idiot. I use Muir's "Idiots guide to keepign your vw alive forever" for the what-to and how-to for fixing my 356, and use Elfrinks for the specs/numbers.

I can program in several languages, learn new programming languages with no issue, server administration is a breeze, networking and firewall configuration is dead easy, but if there are moving parts, I get lost really quick.


What I really need is a winning lotto ticket so I can just send #222522 back to the factory for a resto job
