Your Definition of an "Exotic" Car?

Was thinking about this the other day and wanted to hear your feedback.

1) Is it the price of a car, for example is a $200,000 Mercedes S65 AMG exotic...because it is over $200K or not because it is a "S" class Benz?

2) Is it because car has 500hp and can crack 175+mp/h? Then a modified Toyota Supra qualifies?

3) Is is a hand built ultra rare car "new" car...like a Pagoni

4) Is it an old ultra rare classic...like a Duesenberg?

5) Is it rare (sports) car that was built in low numbers regardless of era..like Wayne's 959

6) Is it strictly a Sports car or can you consider a sedan "exotic"?

7) Are supercars also exotic cars, and exotic cars also supercars?

8) Can modified cars been considered or just factory stock cars?

9) Is it possible for some cars to start off their life as not exotic, and over time beome considered exotic....like a Toyota 2000GT?

Your thoughts?
Yasin

I would not consider any Toyota ever built to be an "exotic." IMO the only "exotic" Jap car is the Acura NSX.

I consider my 928 to be an exotic, and anything with a Ferrari or Lambo or Astin Martin or Lotus, or similar badge on the hood. I consider all Porsche's except for 914s, 924s, and non turbo 944's to be exotic.

To me the only American exotics are the Panterra, the Viper, the DeLorean, McLarens, and some Corvettes.

These are just my standards.

Expensive, low production numbers, rare.
A Pagani Zonda would qualify.

So a $10,000 308 is exotic? Not very.

I used to consider Porsches exotic, but since 996/997s and boxsters are almost as common as taxis around here, not really anymore.

My interpretation of an exotic car is a car of foreign origin, not native. It is ultra high-end with very low production numbers. Strikingly unusual in appearance, purpose built, and performs unlike anything else on the road.

For me, the only factory street Porsches deserving of the term Exotic would be the 959 and the Carrera GT.

But not a Porsche 550? Come on, a 550 is very rare and expensive.

I don't think the term "Exotic car" existed before the Countach was produced back in 1974.

to me, an exotic car would be any car that is rarely seen on the road during everyday's hussle and bussle.

Lamborghini's were always what I considered exotic. I was never a real fan of the car, over the top styling.

Anything fanicer that a Porsche 911 I would consider calling exotic.
Carrera GT, 959
Ferrari
Aston Martin
Lotus

Ford GT is in those lofty heights....so, not all exotics have to be foreign...

Pages and pages of debate, much of it quite funny when you see how worked up a bunch of weenies with too much time on their hands can get.
