I'm not a fan of the Nazi war machine but I did respect them as an enemy.

Absolutely. But I'm not sure I'd be framing those and hanging them in my house.

Isn't that first pic that behemoth mortar gun the Germans had that was mounted on a railroad car and fired a huge shell like 25 miles or something? Yikes. Actually I say yikes, but it's nothing like today, where they can send a missile up your can using satellites.

Its amazing those Spitfire pilots would nudged the V-1 buzz bombs with their tips of their wings to push them off target.

Those are amazing photos but we should all be very thankful we did not have to participate. Those men (and women) were asked to do an awful job and they did it. If they had failed we would be typing this in German or Japanese.

The picture of the Spitfire "tipping" the V-1 is pretty impressive. This was a proven strategy to knock these off their targets but took an immense amount of skill...

At least it was a war worth fighting.

I believe that's about the range of the 16" guns on our battleships.

Yes, we have a couple of fortifications still here that had 15" or 16" guns... they say they could have hit Catalina if they wanted to (24 miles).

They also say that they only fired the guns once for a test... and it broke every window in San Pedro.

I'm bummed they removed the guns and mortars... they would make an awesome display... we do have a 15" gun and shell outside the maritime museum.
