"Lost Money" Sites
So an ex-girlfriend sends me a link to the NY State website where you can look to see if you have any "lost" money. It might be a deposit from the gas company, a refund, etc.
So I check the website, and sure enough (I expect she had checked my name) I had 3 hits, 2 of which matched my old address. NY doesn't give you any info. I applied for them last week. Today I get 2 checks in the mail for a little over $300. Well, this inspired me to look at every address I've lived. NY - Telephone deposit, House Insurance, Electric Deposit VA - Something TX - Medical deposit I checked my Parents old address in California, they had something, for $7.92...sad My wife? Nothing. My ex-wife? Yep, positive hits. I'm not telling her...

I supposedly have $600 at some title or escrow place in TX. Wish I had time to fuss with it right now...

Haven't spoken with her in 18+ years. I have no desire to break that record...

Yeah, I've gotten money a couple of times. I got money in FL, and my mom has gotten some too.

Actually, when my mother in law passed away 3 years ago, I though I had closed her bank account...
Apparently not, there was $2800 and change left in it, ![]() ![]() ![]() Very surprising how much money there is in dormant bank account. Worth checking. The Bank of Canada holds unclaimed bank balances of $500 or more indefinitely. Unclaimed balances under $500 are kept for 20 years from the date of the last transaction - 10 years at the original bank, and another 10 at the Bank of Canada. At the end of December 2009, approximately 1,122,000 unclaimed balances, worth some $395 million, were on the Bank's books. Over 93.4% of these were under $1,000.00, representing 30.82% of the total value outstanding. The oldest balance dates back to 1900. So in the US it would be at least 10 time the amount (base on population ratio) Canada (manage by the Bank of Canada): Unclaimed balances - Bank of Canada US (could only find article about it) Unclaimed Bank Accounts and this site (probably has a fee of some kind); Unclaimed Money Search - Find Unclaimed Property and Claim Missing Money UK (could only find article about it): Cameron Raids Dormant U.K. Accounts as Minister Attacks Banks - Bloomberg Others: Goggle it... Good Luck

Let's see, she not only cheated on me, she ran off with the guy. He was married with 2 kids and a stay at home wife. A really fantastic guy. Nope. No desire to have any contact with her. And as I went through things, I found that during the time we dated and then married, she had a minimum of 5 affairs. Those were ones I could prove. I actually had suspicion of several more.
A couple of years ago, my wife received a phone call and misunderstood the words. She heard that these people were contacting me and Mary was dead. If she was dead, OK, I'd see what I could do to contact her family. So I called the people back. Debt. She owes a lot of money. I looked into it, mostly to see if it could come back and bite me, and there was a $25,000 judgment against her in a different state. It seems she continues to leave a wake behind her... No, I will not contact her.

I apologies for pressing the point. I also have a similar story of infidelity and dishonesty about my ex wife. I won't go over it here but I do understand how you feel. Take care.

It's not a problem, I really don't care about her, one way or another. We split up 19 years ago (man, that seems like a really long time ago!). But I have no illusions about her either. She is nto a good person and I do not want anything to do with her. For the sake of of family, I'd help finding them if she were dead. But that is it.

Went to the NY site and found my dads name, the address they had listed was from 45 years ago! But no amount, so it might be $3 or $3k.!! So I filled out the paper work and gave it to him to send in. This will give him something to do and a good story for the rest of the old farts at the country club!

I also checked when this was posted. Found something in my name. Got a check today for $89. No idea from what, who or why but don't care. Pays for Fantasy Football league this year.
Also checked under my fathers name, deceased 3 years ago this past Friday. There is an insurance company check. The address is my old apt. At the time I had one of my cars in his name but paid the ins myself. So here's my dilema. Do I simply put in his SS and my new address and claim it or or do I fill out all the paperwork for a deceased claimant? I'm thinking just put in the SS and be done with it. Thoughts?

I checked out the NYS uncollected funds site, filled out the online form and 10 days later a check, nice.
I collected $65 bucks from an old health care insurance company.
