Started drinking more water

and lost seven pounds in three days... go figure. I sound like one of those commercials. I've been having a lot of trouble getting my last bit of weight off for OCS. Turns out I was just dehydrated.

74" 212lbs to 205lbs. Current standards say I cannot weigh more than 211lbs.

sc_rufctr 08-03-2010 03:01 AM

Well done! ................... Are you exercising as well? :D

sammyg2 08-03-2010 05:25 AM

Doesn't make sense. you were dehydrated, corrected that, and lost 7 pounds?
Sounds more like you had excessive salt in your system causing you to retain too much water.
I guess that could be considered dehydtation, in a round-about way.

Just exactly how much water have you been drinking?
It is possible to poison yourself with too much water.

indeed strange to lose that much weight in that short time just by drinking more water. ( especially after dehydration...)

And yes, you can poison yourself and die by drinking to much water!

Water does have an LD50, and for rats it's 90 ml/kg. It should be something similar to that for humans. Here's a woman that died in a water drinking contest from water intoxification: Woman in water-drinking contest dies - U.S. news - Life - msnbc.com

Probably he is filling his stomach with water now instead of food. Eating less and does not realize it.

TechnoViking 08-03-2010 06:26 AM

Or more likely, substituting water now for what was previously juice, soda, etc. Reduce calories = reduce weight.

That would do it. But 7 lbs worth in 3 days? I doubt a person could lose that much fat that quickly even if they didn't eat anything and ran a marathon.

Gotta be water weight.

Groesbeck Hurricane 08-03-2010 07:02 AM

reducing carbonated beverages can cause a weight loss. Water flushing out your system can cause weight loss. Water replacing food/caloric intake can cause weight loss. 7 pounds in 3 days is alot!!!

Have you tried eating 6-8 meals a day at 4 oz or less per meal? Sort of a grazing style of eating. Keep meals to fruit, veggie, meat, yogurt, beans? Few starches/sugars?

I know it is easy to go up and down a few pounds during the week. Keep at it!

We used to mix exercise (sit-ups, push-ups, airbornes, arm rotations, etc) with our 7-10 mile runs. Stop running to rest (read as exercise time) then run a few more miles and rest (more push-ups), run some more, repeat. Keep yourself hydrated and seek doctors advice on exercise before trying anything. Did I miss any disclaimers? Oh yeah, I'm neither a doctor nor an actor not even an attorney.

That's probably it.

I do that a lot with sports.

Rick Lee 08-03-2010 07:15 AM

Why can't I do it? I might drink a soda twice a month and drink OJ only on weekends. I drink water all day.

JJ 911SC 08-03-2010 07:30 AM

Probably would...

Beer is mostly water ........ ;)

Rick Lee 08-03-2010 07:46 AM

I don't drink much beer either. Might average one per day over a month.

:D lol!

Read this guys, Drinking Water and Weight Loss.

I don't drink sodas or juices, eat excessively (my intake has not changed), consume foods with too much sugar, salt or fat, and I exercise daily.

About seven days a week I will do five lifts, five core exercises, one hour of cardio, and at least twelve miles of biking. It made no sense for my weight to remain constant. The only change in my routine is that I started to drink 135 ounces of water each day. Pissed like a race horse at first! However, my weight is dropping steadily and starting to level out now at a much lower level.

You guys are harsh :p.

TimBer 08-03-2010 07:36 PM

Headed to OCS soon? Get used to drinking a lot of water. You won't go anywhere without your canteen/ water bottle. They even have color coded charts above the urinal so you can check your pee to make sure you are adequately hydrated. Practice eating all your meals with a spoon now. It will help you be more efficient during chow. The sand pit is Satan's playground. Have fun and good luck.

good timing on this post. In the past 20 years or so, i drank maybe 1 small glass of water a day. I have starting drinking much more water also, but i have gained @ 10 pounds. long story short, for some reason i just never drank much water, or soda. I rarely ever sweat and was never thirsty and went pee maybe 1-2 a day. Well, ive been having some health issues and the doctor told my insides were basically being destroyed by lack of water. So now, as a starting point, Im drinking @ 6 - 32 ounce glasses of water for the past 2 weeks, and ive gained 10 pounds, i sweat all the time, and i pee 10 times a day.. I actually dont like the way it makes me feel, but it is helping my body, so i will keep doing it.
