garage floor paint ? Going over existing

My new man cave garage has existing floor paint. Not sure what it is but it seems in very good shape. But it's a darker gray than I like and the previous owners name is spelled out with the flecks you toss on the wet paint . So I want to recoat with a lighter gray. I guess to make sure the previous owners name doesn't bleed through I'll sand with a belt sander or similiar. But what paint should I go with not knowing what is there already ? I know I have to clean/degrease real good but any other tips ? The existing paint has a gloss to it do I have to knock that down before painting ? The beginning of my ultimate man cave build .

I would at least scuff up the paint before trying to adhere a new layer.

Clean and degrease. Aggressively sand floor to promote adhesion. Coat with 2-component urethane.

UCoat It Do-it Yourself Floor Coatings for a Durable, Protective Finish If you are not going to sand the whole floor with a floor grinder, you should probably at least etch the surface with a muriatic acid sollution. Here's a good write-up on surface prep: How to Epoxy Coat your Garage Floor - Do It Yourself Epoxy Coating Have fun! | ||
