spoon question..
pros and cons of ar-10 over ar-15 or .308 v.s. .223? i am thinking of getting one and have always thought i wanted it in .308 because it would keep the number of different types of amo i stock to a minimum but .223 is really cheep in bulk......
what say you all?

what are you going to do with it???
how flat do you want the trajectory? .308 is classic - for a reason if you want a high-speed but smaller round .223 or why not go whole hog and get 22-250 (or hook an elephant gun up to a pellet gun... that's the ticket) |

You need both (.223 & .308). Lots of useful calibers out there but there's some advantage in going with strength in numbers.
Pretty much anyone can handle .223, not everyone enjoys .308. Jim

You'll never really need an AR-10. Better to get the AR-15 and feed it for less.

The 308 is a Main Battle Rifle round...medium to long range 600 to 1000 yard round. Lots of punch. One shot one kill.
The 223 is more of a close assault round. lots of zip but not a heck of allot of punch. More of the 200 to 300 yard range. Ammo is relativily light weight vs the 308 so the troopers can carry more of it to a fire fight. Most of the Special Ops guys like the 308 and the 45 ACP..When ya hit your target, it knows it. I would also imagine that the 357 is popular as a backup revolver...again with the 357 you do get your targets attention..and there is no such thing as hiding behind a car body either. So it get down to what kind of Buckaroo you wana pretend you are..

.308 Is my favorite battle round.
It's expensive for gophers. If your target shooting / pest control the .223 is the way to. Zombie control .308 is the ticket

Intended use will point to one over the other. Just plinking and general fooling around, go with the smaller of the two and save money every time you pull the trigger. If you are hunting, or invading a neighboring state, the .308 may serve you better. The .308 is much more expensive to shoot, however, with no real advantage in accuracy, range, or trajectory at any sort of useful range. It just hits harder. If you need that, fine - but most people who aren't hunting don't.

the 308/7.62x51 turns cover into concealment
Also, the 223 may not be legal for hunting big game, should you decide to get some practice in. Skip the AR10 and go with a FAL.
