The Duck needs a relay - any good online source for Ducati parts?

Patient is a 1998 900 Monster. The main ignition relay works most of the time. Usually turning the switch off and on a few times will power it up. After 5 minutes of cycling it on and off it wouldn't come back to life today.

I've been to dozens of parts web sites, but most are generic redirects that only lead to light bulbs and battery chargers.

The number on the relay is PA66-GF30 12V 40A. Any suggestions for a good Ducati parts web site?

There should be a few generic versions you can source locally as well. Just google "pa66-gf30 alternatives"

Eric, where did you find this number? I found some discussion of this being the part number for later model Monsters, but haven't found confirmation that it's the right number for a 1998 model.

It's the PN for the standard 12v 40a (yellow) relay on most Duc models (Monster, SBK, SS, ST). If the one you are replacing is the yellow one, they are all the same AFAIK. Carb'd models should be the same, but not positive. Regardless, there should be plenty of 12v 40a alternatives to the OEM (Bitron) version available locally. No need to spend $30+ at the dealer for one.

I'm confused as I'm finding "PA66-GF30" that have four connections where mine has five. I read on a Ducati forum of someone buying one from the list of alternatives and finding that the contacts were in the same pattern, but it was wired differently.

I'm thinking it's probably a different part for the '98. Mine's not yellow... I found the yellow relay for sale here and it says it fits the 2000 model, but doesn't list other years for the M900.

I'll have to call one of the Ducati parts suppliers listed above to see if they know for sure. All the parts diagrams I've found for the M900 start with Y2K.

Isn't there a duc dealer that you can just take the part down to? Or call and see if the other number is a cross reference?

After a quick search, here are a few listed/common alternatives:

One of those (or any common 12v automotive/headlight relays) should work.

Went by an auto parts store with the list of alternatives. Guy there was a former motorcycle mechanic and was intimately familiar with Ducatis. He pulled out a relay (not on the list) with the same contact arangement. It even had the same numbers on the contacts. Cool! BUT, I popped it in and it doesn't work.

This is why I'm hesitant to order one off of Ebay. Back to plan A... contacting a Ducati parts house.

Yeah, I'd call AZSBK in Chandler and see if they have one (or any ideas). I'd also confirm that you do in fact have a starter relay problem, and not a starter solenoid problem.

This isn't the stater relay. It's the main power to the fuse block. The original is intermittent. Turn the key, sometimes everything powers up. Sometimes when you turn the key absolutely nothing happens. It'll work fine for days then you may have to cycle the key 20 times before it powers up. Figure it's a matter of time before it's completely toast. The one from the autoparts store did absolutely nothing. Swapped it for the original and it powered up.

Yep, that definitely sounds like the main "general" relay. Just wanted to make sure, as some have been known to mix up/interchange the terms "starter relay", "ignition relay", and "solenoid" on Ducs.

After the third no go from the alternative lists, I called ProItalia. Cost was $27, but chances are this one will actually work.
