My favorite for every day drinking is Oban. As someone mentioned earlier, it is the merlot of the SMS world. Very smooth, palatable, yet complex. Not too peaty/smokey which can be a turnoff for some (not me). I also like Macallan and Talisker. If you like Scotch style whiskey, I recommend a new kid on the block distilled right here in Seattle called Westland (Westland Distillery – Thoughtfully Made). If you can get a hold of their limited edition Deacon Seat, it is worth every dollar. Very nice.

I bought this one for my dad more than ten years ago.
1951 is the year he was born in so I tought it made a nice gift.
It was kinda pricey even back then and I suggested to open it when he retired...
He is retired now, but the whiskey has become so rare, drinking it would feel weird.

Eyes got me sum Popcorn Sutton corn liker. It's got that ole timeie Shine taste but watered down for city slickers. 88 proof. That Still is bein run by two of Dickels former Master Distillers. So down the road a bit you can expect sum thin special coming from them.

For some real ole time high octane liker I got some ole Grand Dad 114. That is a Beam product. And sum Dickle 12 which is TN sour mash at 90 octane.

I am looking to get me some Old Weller 12 or Antique 107. That is a Buffalo Trace product . The same as Pappy Van Winkle and their Buffalo 125 octane white lightening.

Another Shiner gone legal is Climax by Tim...i like to try me some of his corn liker

Long time ago I had me sum real GA shine straight from the hills..it is an acquired taste.and it weren't no store bought GA Moon neither..although I had me some of that too.

I have had decent luck getting Old Weller Antique at my local grocery store at retail. Which is around $25 a bottle. It’s amazing stuff for the price. Never seen the 12 year outside of the secondary market.

Love me some Old Grandad 114 and their bottled in bond product.

Cant find the Weller in LV...

Back in the day Trader Joes used to have the 107, for about $8. That was some tasty nectar.

I be thinkin maybe I will call Buffalo Trace...

I haven’t opened anything, but I’ve shamelessly put a bottle of Tomatin 14 in my wife’s stocking. We are both huge single malt fans, so it is win-win!

Never had it. It came with a little booklet but here is the story: https://www.glenfiddich.com/ca/explore/experimental-ipa

I'll report back once I crack the bottle. My first one will be the Nàdurra at around 21:00 :)

Joyeux Noël et une bonne année 2019...

Milt,

If you can find it, Tamdhu, a 10 year old single malt, Speyside. Light, slightly sweet, smooth. I prefer it to single malts costing two and three times as much.

Enjoy Laddie

I should have listened to your recommendation much earlier!

Very nice!

We were waiting for the invite to sample yours!

The Tamdhu 10 was an excellent bottle at the price point.
New in the liquor cabinet this week is a Bunnahabhain 12.
Similar in price to the Tamdhu it is a nice lightly peated Scotch.

Had a sample and it is very nice.

Will no doubt post a sideways photo of this one too.

flatbutt 03-24-2019 04:19 PM

who names these brands?

billybek 03-24-2019 05:10 PM

Tamdhu is Gaelic for little dark hill and Bunnahabhain is mouth of the river or something like that.
Crazy Scots!

lol, i figured as much, a friend of mine once bought a square foot of land somewhere in Scotland for his mums birthday.. because at that point owner is then rightfully a Laird, Lord or Lady

fintstone 08-11-2019 06:46 AM

You guys are all out of my league. Jose Cuervo was on sale at the mil base for $9 a bottle. I bought 6. Should last me two or three years. I can't imagine spending much more that $20 for a bottle of anything. Is there really that big a difference?

svandamme 08-11-2019 10:21 AM

From experience I get just as drunk from a 15 bucks bottle as I do with a 40 or more bottle.
